The Watch leader signed as he investigated the crime scene. At some time in the night, a vile royal governor was found dead, just outside of his home. The killer hadn't left so much of a trace they were there, save for the gaping, bloody slice in the man's throat.
"He got away again..." One of his assistants muttered behind him. He sighed again, and nodded.
"Unfortunately. But we will find him. If it's the last damn thing we do."

Meanwhile, the assailant walked through the woods from her client, multiple things on her mind, none of which being the murder she had committed. She wore her usual, muted blue hoodie and faded leather pants (all stolen, she doesn't have money). In her belt, she had an old, albeit sharp dagger holstered nicely.
Despite her deep hatred for most things, she was an excellent assassin. She was an expert in killing, and even more so disguising her crimes as someone else's. If anyone saw her hanging around the woods? She was simply an explorer. No one to be suspicious of.
It was the perfect crime.
It took no more than a moment for her to process the sound of footsteps nearby. It took her even less time to dart away. She looked over her shoulder, and as soon as she saw no Watch members, she figured it was safe to come out of hiding. After all, what would her excuse be if they saw her.
She nonchalantly walked by the blue-haired boy, who waved to her. "Oh, uhm...Afternoon!" He greeted, albeit awkwardly.
She froze, contemplating whether or not to answer. Finally, she decided that it would be fine. "Afternoon." She greeted. She heard him mutter something to himself in confusion, and she quickly clarified, "I'm just an explorer out here."
"Ah, I see. That...makes more sense."
She was about to walk away, until she suddenly felt a small pit form in her stomach. Something in her pushed her to introduce herself, and in spite of herself, she let her heart take the reins for once. "I'm Fanny."
"Oh..." He nodded, "I'm Clock. An artisan from the town nearby."
"And...why are you out here?"
"I..." He hesitated for a moment, before sighing, "I guess I've just been feeling a little unsafe. I mean, you heard about the murders, right?"
"If only you knew how much I've heard..." She thought to herself. However, externally, she simply nodded. "I understand."
"Hm." He hummed. He was about to say something else, until she pointed out, "Y'know, you don't look much younger than me. Where're your parents?"
He was suddenly confused. He lived in a small town, and basically everyone there knew he had no family. So...Eh, she probably just wasn't from his village. "My parents went missing. So did my sister." He explained.
"...Ah." She awkwardly said, "I'm...uh, sorry."
"It's alright. I'm used to it by now."
"Still..."
He simply shook his head and smiled at her. "You know, it's strange...I just met you, yet I felt compelled to tell you something that personal." He chuckled. "Maybe it's a sign we should talk again?" He joked, but she could tell he was slightly serious. She didn't mind, though—Clock's presence made her feel...comfortable, for some reason.
"Maybe." She nodded, and walked off. Even so, she gave him the silent hint that she wanted to meet again, which he took. He smiled slightly, and walked in the opposite direction.
