Stitching Old Wounds

Pin was flawlessly perfect.

She was perfect at everything she did. Whether it be cooking, or croquet, or any sort of princess duty, it didn't matter. She did it all flawlessly, without breaking a single sweat. She was everything everyone could ever want to be.

Well, everyone, apart from one, lone girl.

While Pin was out giving a speech to the townspeople, Needle stood by her side, sword in hand. She was supposed to be protecting the princess, but she was still just trapped in her own thoughts. Thoughts about Coiny...Damn it, she hated him so much.

To her, he was just an obstacle. A person who kept her away from her dreams, regardless of if he meant to or not. Most of all, though, she hated that he couldn't let go of their past together, no matter what.

She felt her fists clench on instinct upon thinking about it. Thinking about him...She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't even realized Pin had finished until the crowd's cheers finally connected with her ears. She quickly followed her back to the castle, trying to act calm. Almost as soon as they got inside, Pin separated from her without a word.

She could tell they both had some thinking to do.

Pin sighed and sat down on her bed, crossing her arms over her chest. She didn't understand. She didn't understand why Needle had been so upset with Coiny. She didn't have to hear the words come out of her mouth to know what she would say about him, given the chance.

She felt her anger boil up slightly, but she shut it down before it got the chance to control her, even if she couldn't fully rectified. By then it was nighttime, but despite everything telling her to just lie down, and go to sleep,  her heart wasn't in the mood to do so. So, instead, she stood up, and silently shut her door, stepping outsdie.

She needed to take a walk.

"Needle!"

"Huh? Oh, hello, Coiny!"

"I never really asked before, but do you have anything special you want to be when we get older?"

"Hm...I never thought about it much, either. But, being a knight would be cool!"

"...Oh...Okay..."

"You okay...?"

"...Yeah. I'm fine."

"If you're sure..."

Needle's jolted quickly awake as soon as the dream had ended. She groaned and laid in bed for a few more silent moments, before grunting and slowly slipping out of bed. The knight stepped silently through the castle's hallways, thinking to herself.

She wasn't sure what she was feeling. Jealousy? Resentment? Or just pure hatred? It may have been a mix of all three—there was no way she could tell for sure. All she knew was that just the thought of having the princess be with Coiny made her sick to her stomach. But, having a silent walk to her own emotions helped.

While turning a corner, however, she suddenly found herself face to face (a/n: not really bc needle's so much taller than pin but you get it.) with Pin. "Why are you awake, Needle?" She asked. Needle rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.

"I could be asking you the same thing, Princess." She retorted bluntly. When she got no response, she huffed and turned away, beginning to walk away.

"...What's your problem."

She stopped and slowly turned to face the princess, who had a cold glare on her face. It was an expression she'd never seen her make before—if she was being honest, it kind of freaked her out. But, she recovered quickly, and asked, "What do you mean?"

"I know for a fact you hate Coiny." She accused bluntly, "Why? What did he ever do to you?!" Needle gritted her teeth and glared, but remained silent. That was her cue to continue, "Fine. Don't answer. But, if you hate him for Pin Factory-knows-what, what does it have to do with me?"

That did it for Needle.

"Because, IDIOT, you brought him back into my life!!" She yelled, just barely quiet enough to not wake anyone up, "When I finally became a knight, I was free from him! But then YOU fell in love with him! YOU made me deal with overhearing you talking to the king about how you should be allowed to be with him! Lucky for me, it sounds like HE actually has a brain, and separated you two! But, it doesn't change the fact that you caused me to have to deal with him again for all that time! And I get that you can't control your feelings, but that doesn't help him, either! HE NEEDS TO GO AWAY, DAMN IT!!!"

She finally finished her rant, panting slightly. Pin stood silently in front of her, a hurt, offended look on her face. After a while of tense silence, the princess sighed, and rubbed her arm. "Thanks for answering." She said insincerly, before stepping past the knight and back towards her room.

Needle watched as she rounded the corner and disappeared from view. Finally, she sighed. She didn't regret what she had said. She knew she should've, and she knew there'd be Hell to pay for it if anyone found out. But, in the moment, she didn't care. And she didn't thinks she ever would.

After minutes of just simply standing there, she finally got the energy to walk back to her own quarters. She closed the door behind her and laid down in her bed, thinking. She was still fuming, to be honest. She did understand how Pin didn't get it. She couldn't have know, after all. But, she was still mad.

Somewhere in her heart, however, there was a sense of relief. Relief that she could finally show the princess that she hated so much the truth about her love. Relief that maybe now, things would start looking up for her.

Relief that Coiny was gone now. For good.
