~Raya~
It has been a week, and we still haven't found the plaque. My family returned back except for my father.
Edna has been haunting me and appearing more frequently. I see her in mirrors, in dreams, and I frequently hear her whispers during the day. She is convinced that Liam does not love me and expresses it every chance she gets.
I wanted Maya to teach me how to use my fae power, but I became exhausted more quickly. She suggested I attempt shifting, which would provide me with greater strength. I have made multiple attempts at shifting, but it turns painful every time. Liam has been hurting too, looking at my effort and failure, but he never once made any comment.
We have almost completed looking at the north part of the palace and started towards the southmost room. We have been split up to look at it, but everyone is aware that only I can figure it out. Liam confirmed that it was glamoured, making me the only person to uncover it. I entered the hall, which is nothing different than the others, with captivating wall murals of the Great War trailing to the ceiling, when something drew my attention.
It's fixated in the middle of the wall, too high for me to reach. I stared at it as everything began to move. I went back in time only to find myself standing in front of the mirror in my bridal gown when someone knocked gently twice and then continued after a beat, as if it were a signal.
Edna grinned and stepped towards the door to open it, solely to find Marcus hovering over her. His gaze focused on her beauty as he dipped to kiss her hair. "You look beautiful."
She flushed at his words and stepped aside. He entered as he pulled out the decanter to look for glasses in the cabin. He poured it into them and stood in front of her, handing her one. She accepted the glass and inquired, "What's special about this?"
He smiled broadly, saying, "Try it, love; it's my favorite and rare." She took a drink, humming at the delicious liquid. She turned around, taking a few more swallows and savoring the moment when someone stabbed her in the back, covering her mouth to keep from shouting. They drew it out only to stab repeatedly. They may have stabbed her nearly ten times after being persuaded she had died. As the sound of the steps faded, Edna rushed to see if Marcus had died as well, but there was no one in the hall.
She felt both happy and deceived. Happy that her mate might still be alive yet betrayed by the idea of abandoning her to die, as she had previously assumed. She dragged her numb body across the floor to the door. She raised herself to sit leaning against the door frame when she felt something hard under her fingers on the floor.
With her fading vision, she lifted it up to her dilated eyes and saw that it was the emerald ring she had given Marcus. She let out a loud wail at the prospect of Marcus betraying her. She trusted him not just with her heart, but also with the wellbeing of her people. Her heart wrenched thinking about what her loved ones would go through if he had done this for power. Perhaps for his rogue brother. Her cry grew louder when thunder hit a neighboring tree, setting it on fire. The rain came down as if it were raging over the wounds. She clutched the emerald ring as her sobbing faded and rage replaced it tenfold. She held the ring and began chanting loudly, which echoed as the fire blazed, devouring the entire tree.
The last of her energy left her when she exclaimed loudly, "You are not worth it."
I jolted out of the painful dream and sat screaming when Liam wrapped his arms around me, soothing me, "Ray, it's me. Shhh It's fine, Ray. Its Liam. It's ok, baby. You are safe." I checked my chest for knife wounds. The stab felt so real, and I am still feeling the pain of guilt, betrayal, anguish, desperation, and rage. I still have many emotions swirling like tornadoes in me, as I am unable to comprehend them.
I turned to Liam as his gaze met mine. "It's ok, Ray," he whispered again. I pulled him in and sobbed uncontrollably, mumbling, "It hurts, Liam. She was stabbed so many times. It really hurts."
Tears stream from his eyes as he tightens his arms around me. "I am sorry for what happened, Ray, but remember it in the past. You are not her. We are not them."
"We are their incarnation, Liam; how can we be different than them?"" I asked
"We are stronger to find each other no matter what, Ray. We are stronger than them." He replied
"So, you won't ever betray me," I asked as my voice turned gloomy and stern like it was not mine.
"Never Ray. I love you more than my life," he replied.
"Liar, you don't. I remember you saying its casual fling the last time I heard your honest response." I smirked with such cruelty to it. A shiver went through him, like he froze.
"Huh, caught you. Didn't I? " I screamed as the room turned red in hue, and my body felt lighter as someone took over it. The darkness my mind yearned for is now engulfing me. I was seeking peace in the dark, but all I was feeling was more pain, restless, and drained.
