I spent most of the afternoon getting ready for my date with Leo, deciding to straighten my long, light blonde hair, but with a bunch of body, so that it was bouncy. I went with sparkly pink eyeshadow and black cat eyeliner, finishing off the look with a cherry red lip. I had just put on a cute, floral pink dress that went to my knees when Colette popped in.
"You look really cute," she smiled, doing her best not to ruin my evening. She was still wary about my date with Leo, but my grandma had talked her into giving him a chance.
"Thanks. I wanted to wear something casual, but kind of dressy too," I breathed as I tucked my hair behind my ear. "Do you know what you're wearing yet? He's picking us up in an hour."
"I was thinking my white sundress. I wanted to look nice, but I'm not going to impress anyone," she shrugged.
"What about his friend that will be there?"
"Didn't you say it was his friend and his girlfriend?"
"Oh yeah, I almost forgot that part."
"I'm basically going to be a third wheel during this date."
"I'm sorry," I apologized, genuinely feeling bad, since I hadn't thought about it from that point of view.
"It's okay. Believe me, if the roles were reversed and you were going with me on a date with Johnny Depp, I would really appreciate it."
"Well, I really appreciate you doing this for me too. I was just scared that you might back out on me."
"Laura, I would never do that. If I promise to do something for you, then I'm going to. I might be anxious about tonight, but I'll get over it."
Once the doorbell rang we both went straight down the staircase, Leo talking with my grandmother in the kitchen as my parents warily watched from the other room. They were both seated on the sofa in front of the television, but they still could see what was happening.
"You ready to go," Leo asked me with a sweet smile. He was in a pair of black pants and a nice, dark blue button up.
"Yeah, my cousin, Colette is going with us too. I hope you're okay with that. My parents are overprotective," I slightly laughed.
"That's alright. Your grandma already told me about that actually."
"Oh." I could feel the blush rising to my cheeks as we followed him out to his red convertible. Colette went straight for the backseat, while I took the passenger side. I knew that she was probably used to the sights of palm trees, but it still felt strange to me. I had been to states for vacation before that had them, but most of the time I was just gazing at the maple right outside my window. The sun hadn't set yet, since it was summer, so I was able to see all of the buildings clearly too. Eventually we pulled up to a place that looked like you would have to make a reservation in advance, Leo finding a spot in the paid parking area. He led us up to the sidewalk in front of the place, the guy checking for Leo's name on the list before allowing us inside. It appeared to be a pub, but it was classy and everyone seemed to be calm and not drinking too much. I think Leo was searching for his friends before his face lit up when they greeted each other. I couldn't understand why Colette's face had turned completely red until we went over to the couple.
"Hello," Johnny Depp greeted us with a polite smile. I recognized the brunette beside him as Winona Ryder, her eyes twinkling.
"Hi, I'm Laura and this is my cousin, Colette," I awkwardly introduced us.
"It's nice to meet both of you." He held out his hand for us to shake, so we took turns. I think Winona was still so in awe by him that she didn't notice that Colette was suffering from a major crush on her guy.
