Part 6: Breaking News
The morning after their quiet moment at the stables, reality came crashing down harder than YN or Alexia expected.
It started with the soft vibration of YN’s phone on her nightstand. She groggily reached for it, her mind still hazy with sleep. The notification that lit up her screen, however, jolted her awake immediately.
Breaking News: Secret Love Story Between Entrepreneur YN Lee Anderson and Princess Alexia Revealed.
A wave of dread washed over her as she quickly opened the article. Photos of her and Alexia were plastered across every major news outlet—some from their recent engagement announcement, others more intimate, taken without their knowledge. There were pictures of their time at the stables, and even one of them holding hands in what YN thought was a private moment. Headlines screamed accusations of a rekindled romance, secret relationships, and ulterior motives behind the arranged marriage.
YN’s phone buzzed again, this time with a flurry of messages—some from concerned friends, others from reporters looking for a comment.
Her heart pounded as she jumped out of bed, dialing Alexia’s number. It rang a few times before the princess answered, her voice tight. “You’ve seen it?”
“I’m looking at it right now,” YN said, pacing the room. “How did this get out? We were careful. We didn’t even announce the details yet!”
Alexia sighed on the other end. “I don’t know, but I should’ve expected it. The press has a way of finding things out. I’m so sorry, YN. This is exactly what I was afraid of.”
The fear in Alexia’s voice mirrored YN’s own. She knew what this kind of media attention could do. Her business, her reputation, her entire life was now open to scrutiny in ways she had never prepared for.
But what weighed on her more was Alexia. The princess had lived under this microscope her whole life, and YN could hear the fatigue in her voice. It wasn’t just about the headlines—it was about the constant pressure that had been on Alexia’s shoulders since they were young.
“We’ll figure it out,” YN said, trying to stay calm. “We just need to get ahead of it. Maybe we can release a statement or—”
Before she could finish, there was a knock at her door. YN tensed, unsure of who it could be. “Hold on, Alexia,” she said, heading toward the door.
When she opened it, she was met by a familiar face—Princess Alexia herself, standing in the hallway, her expression a mixture of exhaustion and determination.
“I thought it’d be better to talk in person,” Alexia said, slipping inside quickly, as if she was trying to avoid being seen.
YN hung up the phone, stunned but relieved to see her. “How did you—?”
“I snuck out,” Alexia said with a small, almost guilty smile. “It’s probably reckless, but I didn’t want to be cooped up in the palace, dealing with my family’s reaction without you.”
YN’s pulse slowed as the sight of Alexia in person steadied her. “You’re here now,” she said softly, “and we’ll figure this out together.”
Alexia sank onto the couch, running a hand through her hair. “The palace is in chaos. My mother’s furious that this got leaked. My father’s already meeting with advisors to discuss how to control the damage. It’s all a mess.”
“And your sisters?” YN asked, sitting down beside her.
“They’re supportive, but even they’re caught in the crossfire. This is going to dominate the news cycle for a while, YN. Every move we make will be analyzed. Every word scrutinized.”
YN felt the weight of Alexia’s words sink in. “I knew this wouldn’t be easy, but I didn’t expect things to spiral out of control this quickly.”
“I didn’t either,” Alexia admitted, her voice tinged with frustration. “But I can’t let the media dictate our lives. I won’t. I don’t want to hide or pretend that what we have is anything less than real.”
YN looked at her, admiration swelling in her chest. Despite the pressure, despite the media circus, Alexia was standing firm. She was willing to fight for them, even in the face of immense scrutiny.
“We need to control the narrative,” YN said, her mind already moving into problem-solving mode. “If we let the press control the story, they’ll paint it however they want. But if we speak out—together—we can take back some of that power.”
Alexia nodded, her resolve hardening. “You’re right. I’ll talk to my father and see if we can release an official statement from both of us. But we need to be ready for backlash. There will be people who don’t approve—who think this engagement is a sham, or that I’m putting the crown at risk by being with you.”
“I know,” YN said quietly. “But I’m not going anywhere, Alexia. If this is what we have to face, then we’ll face it together.”
The look of gratitude in Alexia’s eyes made YN’s heart ache. They were stepping into a storm, one that could either tear them apart or make them stronger. But YN was certain of one thing—they were in this together, and she wasn’t about to let anything or anyone come between them.
“I love you, YN,” Alexia said, her voice soft but steady. “I don’t care what anyone says. We’ve waited too long to get this chance again.”
YN reached for her hand, squeezing it tightly. “I love you too, Alexia. We’re going to get through this.”
As the world outside their door buzzed with speculation and judgment, YN and Alexia found solace in each other, knowing that no matter what the headlines screamed, their story was theirs to write.
And this was just the beginning.
