Drive – Halsey

"Traveling with him again?" Vlad asked, leaning against my office door. I smiled timidly and rested my elbows on the desk, nodding.

"Just three days."

"Did you tell your father?" I made a face and shook my head. I knew I should, but I didn't want to abuse my privileges at the company, and at the same time, I wanted to go with Jack. Vladimir rolled his eyes, sighing. "I'll cover for you, but you have to help with the reports from there."

"You're the best," I said, blowing him a kiss. He pretended to brush it off, pointing at me.

"You haven't even told me who he is, and I'm helping you. If I didn't love you, Savanah..." I laughed, raising an eyebrow, and clasped my hands together in a heart shape.

"You'll keep waiting, sweetheart."

"That's unfair."

"You'll have to wait," I teased, winking. Vlad narrowed his eyes, then tilted his chin.

"I hope he's worth it."

"I think you'll be surprised," I said, biting my lower lip. My friend nodded once, muttering something in Russian under his breath, which I didn't catch. I shook my head, amused.

"I'll head home. Sveta's waiting. Take care, okay?"

"Always. Give her my regards."

"Na tvoye imya" (In your name) Vlad said, waving goodbye, and disappeared down the hallway.

Outside, the administrative staff had already left, as it was almost 8 pm. I decided to stay and finish some reports after Garret called to cancel our meeting because his own ran long. He asked if we could reschedule, and I agreed without issue. By this point, I was on my fourth cup of coffee for the day.

I typed quickly, moving my lips to the music playing in the background, when a notification on my phone alerted me that Jack's team was about to play. I smiled, turned off the music, and searched for an online stream to watch the game. I moved the stream to a secondary screen and continued working with it on in the background.

That day, Jack didn't play, so I didn't give the game my full attention. But his team won by a narrow margin. As soon as it ended, I picked up my phone to send him a message, knowing he wouldn't see it until he returned home.

Sav

Too bad you won't introduce me to your friend.

I placed the phone face down and continued working, pressing my lips together to suppress the smile fighting to appear on my face.

My parents had returned to Russia on Saturday afternoon, and now I was finishing a cup of tea because Jack would arrive soon. My luggage was ready in the living room, and I took the opportunity to wash up before heading upstairs to brush my teeth and finish getting ready.

I decided to test what Jack had said at dinner, wearing light jeans and a white t-shirt with two cherries printed above my breasts, covering up to my clavicle with a closed neckline. It was ordinary fabric, no see-through or anything similar. When Jack arrived, I couldn't help but smile triumphantly as I noticed his changed breathing. Even his pupils dilated slightly as I approached and kissed his cheek innocently, placing my hand on his chest.
