Rex First-Person View:

7 Years Ago - Flashback

I stood there, seething with rage, my fists clenched so tightly that my knuckles had turned white. My teeth ground together, and every muscle in my body was tense, ready to explode at any second. In front of me stood Runeas Gremory, my ancestor. She was the one who set the legacy in motion, the progenitor of the Gremory Clan. Beside her was the ever-stoic Zekram, his ancient eyes watching me with a mix of concern and regret.

Zekram:Calm down, boy

Zekram sighed, his voice attempting to soothe the storm within me, though he knew it would do little. His gaze held a certain sadness in it, an understanding that came from years of witnessing turmoil far worse than this.

But I was having none of it. The fury inside me had been bottled up for too long.

I could feel Katarea's ice  magic begin to wrap around me, restraining my movements. Her power flowed through the room, binding me with  force. I struggled against it, wanting to lunge forward, to strike. I needed to feel the satisfaction of confronting her.

Me:CALM DOWN?

I spat, my voice hoarse with rage, hot tears streaming down my face as I glared at Runeas.

Me:AFTER EVERYTHING THE GREMORY CLAN DID TO ME, WHY IN HELL SHOULD I CALM DOWN?

Runeas stood there quietly, her expression soft but pained. She didn’t flinch at my outburst, not once.

Runeas:I'm sorry, rex

Runeas said, her voice filled with regret.

Runeas:That's why I came here. I came to apologize. I'm truly sorry for everything the Gremory Clan did to you.

I couldn't believe my ears. The audacity. I laughed bitterly, a harsh, broken sound. "SAVE IT!" I shouted.

Me:I BET YOU’RE THE SAME AS ZEOTICUS, THE SAME AS RIAS, THE SAME AS THAT CHYSIS BITCH! ALL OF YOU!

"REX!" Katarea snapped, her magic tightening around me as if warning me to watch my tone.

But Runeas raised her hand, stopping her.

Runeas:let  him speak

she said softly, her eyes never leaving mine.

She took a deep breath and stepped forward, her movements slow, measured.

Runeas:I understand your anger, rex. I won’t try to justify the actions of Zeoticus or Rias. What they did to you was... unforgivable. But I want you to know that I had no part in it. I’ve been away, sleeping... a curse that weakens me more with each passing day.

She paused, looking away for a moment, as if struggling to find the right words.

Runeas:I’m dying, rex

she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.

Runeas:The illness... it’s been with me for centuries, and it’s only getting worse. That’s why I have to go into a deep sleep, waking up only at certain periods. It’s the only way I can prolong my life.

I scoffed, the tears still burning in my eyes.

Me:And what? You think that makes a difference to me? You think that makes everything okay?

Zekram, ever the mediator, stepped forward.

Zekram:Boy, she's telling the truth

he said, his voice firm but kind.

Zekram:Unlike others in your family, Runeas has always been known for her kindness. She’s treated people with fairness, not the cruelty you’ve faced. Please, rex... listen to her.
