Keith awoke with a jolt, his breath ragged and his body drenched in cold sweat. He was back. The familiar sights and smells of the present—his present—flooded his senses, but his heart ached with the memories of the past.
The weight of his actions hung heavy on his shoulders, but he pushed it down, knowing that what he had done was necessary.
The hourglass was gone, shattered into oblivion, and with it, the dangerous obsession that had consumed Gareth and Eleanor Monroe for years. Keith had saved Adeline—saved everyone—but the cost had been far greater than he could have anticipated.
He could only hope that Adeline would one day understand.
As Keith sat in the silence of his room, the final words he had spoken in the past echoed in his mind.
"I'm sorry, Adeline."
But what was done was done.
And time would never be the same again.
