                           KABIR

I balled my fists hearing his evil  laughter. Disgust crawled onto my skin hearing the familiar laugh after so long. It still manages to trigger me. I was trying really hard to control my rage but by each passing second, it was getting harder for me to hold onto my sanity.

He has not changed even a bit. Only his hair has turned grey, otherwise his eyes still hold the same evilness they used to years ago. The wicked smirk on his face made me want to punch him.

"He came back after so many days. We should act normally.."

Her words did nothing but added fuel to my anger. Normal? FUCKING NORMAL?

This word doesn't exist in this household. There is nothing normal here. I ignored her completely knowing very well what was she trying to convey.

"So? Am I beating you? Or him?"

My jaw clenched as he spoke. I have had enough. I couldn't take it anymore. His venomous words were making it difficult for me to not loose my calm.

"Touch her and see what I do.."

I am not afraid. Not even a bit.

That Kabir who used to tremble just by hearing his voice or seeing his face was gone. I was completely hollow now. Days of continuous torture, beatings, abuses and insults made my fear vanish into thin air.

I am not afraid of the consequences. Not anymore.

"Kabir..." She held my shirt and hissed, probably fearing her husband's reaction. "Let's go.." She tried dragging me by holding my arm but I didn't budge.

I was staring into his eyes..without blinking. He looked pissed and I absolutely enjoyed it.

"No no...wait..." He said showing his hand to the woman beside me. Her hold loosened around my shirt, I could feel her shivering.

She was trying to cover herself behind my back. I felt as if someone squeezed my heart painfully.

"What will you do, Kabir?" He asked challenging me through his eyes.

I kept quiet and didn't break the eye contact. This was probably the first time I was looking in his eyes without being held back by the fear of his actions.

"Kab-bir...stop it, please..." She mumbled as her hold tightened around my hand.

I ignored her pleads and stare into his eyes fearlessly. He was challenging me, expecting me to cower away in fear like I used to, but he was wrong.

"KABITA...."

He shouted throwing the glass of alcohol he was holding on the floor.

"Come here." His commanding tone boiled my blood. The rage was building up inside me and I was afraid for I might not be able to control myself anymore and do something she would not like.

"She won't go anywhere." I declared pushing her behind my back. "You don't need to be scared of him." I told her, assuring her through my eyes hoping my words would comfort her and make her support me...atleast this time.
