Yukio's mind raced. Something didn't feel right. "Why did they stop talking so suddenly? Why would it go so quiet after they heard us scream? This doesn't make sense..."
Minutes passed, the tension unbearable, and eventually, the group decided they had no choice but to make a run for it. It was now or never.
"Go," someone whispered. Slowly, everyone began making their way towards the exit.
Yukio nodded, though the uneasy feeling gnawed at his gut. He held back, allowing the others to go first. As he finally stepped outside, his senses were screaming, warning him something wasn't right.
His breath came in shallow bursts as he scanned the surroundings. He could still hear the distant chaos from the other parts of Spadia-screams, explosions-but here, it was like a vacuum. His eyes narrowed.
Why is it so quiet? he thought again, looking around. The distant chaos still echoed through the air, but here... the silence was wrong.
Then it hit him-the temperature. It was getting hotter. He could feel it. The air grew thick with heat, and a faint orange light began to flicker on the walls around them.
"Is it just me," Rei muttered, "or is it getting... hotter?"
The group stopped, looking around as the oppressive heat swelled.
"Yeah, why is it so hot?" Kagami asked in a hushed tone, her face pale as she glanced at the strange illumination.
Then came the orange glow.
It was faint at first, just a flicker on the walls, but it grew menacingly overtime, illuminating the surroundings in an ominous light.
"Does anyone else notice that..?" Yukio's voice cut through the silence, and the group froze.
Tsuyo turned to him, confused. "notice what?"
Yukio pointed, his hand trembling slightly. "Look at the walls."
Everyone's eyes followed his gesture, and there it was-the growing orange light, a deadly glow casting long shadows on the ground. Shadows of figures.
"Up there..." Yukio muttered, dread sinking into his bones. Slowly, as if time itself slowed, he and the others looked up.
Three shadows loomed above them. The Janoan soldiers, crouching like predators, their eyes glowing with cruel anticipation. The silence had been no accident-they had been waiting, watching, knowing the group would emerge.
"They're up there..." Rei whispered, his voice barely audible, trembling with fear.
The tension broke. The group froze, dread clawing at their throats. The soldiers had stopped speaking on purpose-they knew. They had been waiting.
The Janoan soldiers began to move, performing a strange, ritualistic dance, their arms twisting and turning in unison. Flames, unnatural and chaotic, erupted from their hands. The heat became unbearable, scorching the air as the fireballs formed-massive, spiraling orbs of chaotic energy.
They floated high into the air, pulsing with dangerous magic, before plummeting toward the ground with terrifying speed.
Kota's and the others snowballs had already melted from the sheer temperature. The fireball then started to come down , its searing heat making it impossible to breathe.
The heat intensified as the fireball plummeted toward them, growing larger and hotter with every passing second. Yukio's eyes widened as he instinctively bolted back toward the building, his muscles burning as adrenaline surged through his veins. The ground beneath him trembled with each step.
