The Date

Brian:

I waited outside of the school Friday afternoon for Kay. As people passed, they would say hi or congratulate me on a well done baseball game I just played. I was in my uniform and leaning against my car. Kay had promised me she would see this game. The whole time I was on short stop, I kept glancing in her direction. I couldnt stop thinking about yesterday.

She was either sitting and watching Jesse or jumping up and down screaming for me. She had been talking to Jesse a lot during the game a lot too. My insides roared every time I saw them.

Kay appeared from he building; with Jesse. She was holding his hand and smiling. He said something and she blushed. Kay said something and Jesse grinned. He intertwined their fingers and swung his arm. They reached me and his smile vanished.

"Hey Brian." Kay said.

"We gotta go." I said opening my car door.

Kay turned to Jesse and smiled apologetically. 

"Sorry about this."

"Its fine. I'll see you tonight anyway."

"See you." she said and got in the car.

Kay slammed the door shut. I could tell that she was fuming because she only looked at the road. I couldn't blame her. Ive been acting like a jerk to her all week. She did have a right to be mad.

"What was that all about?!" she yelled as I pulled out of the psrking lot.

"I'm sorry." I said quietly. 

"Sorry doesn't cut it, Brian!"

"I just really don't like him. He's a player. I know for a fact that he will hurt you." I said, my voice raising.

"Oh, and your an angel? You've broken somehearts in this school too Brian! But for some reason you chose that thing to fall in love with!" she screamed.

"Don't start on Dani!" I hollered back.

"Why not?" she continued to scream

"Because she's my girlfriend and I...."

"And you what?"

By now I was fuming. I really thought I should pull over so I dont rash the car.

"I love her!" I screamed at her.

"Wow! You pretend to know all about love when you really dont!"

I gripped the steering wheel so hard my knuckles turned white.

"I'm just trying to help you!"

"By what? Ruining the relationship I have with the first guy who treats me well. Brian, you scare off all of my boyfriends. Every one of them!" she said quietly.

"I dont mean to ruin it. I just want to make sure you dont get tossed in the trash." I said quietly.

"I know Brian. I promise i'll be careful."

Ugh! She just did not get this! She just doesnt understand!

"You can't just be careful! You have to expect things! You have to be so careful with things like this! Excpecially you because you are so niave about everything!"

She fell silent. A few minuets went by then she spoke again.

"Stop the car."

"Excuse me?" I said.

"I said stop the car!!" she screamed.

Slamming on the brakes, she grabbed her bag and got out of the car.
