season 1, episode 6
"quiver"
It was the day after Miguel's big showdown in the school cafeteria, and it seemed like word spread around quick abut where the boy learned his karate moves. The dojo was filled with students, including Eli and Demetri.
"Why did I let you guys talk me into this? This goes against everything I stand for?" Demetri complained to Eli and Cat "It's like extra gym class for no reason."
"Let's just give it a chance, you saw the fight. Miguel kicked ass." Eli said to Demetri.
"And besides you don't do anything in gym class anyway, you kinda need this." Cat joked, Demetri shoved her slightly, the girl barley moving. "See what I mean."
"Quiet!" Their sensei shouted gathering everyone's attention. "Face front." The kids did what they were told, Cat deciding to stand up front with Miguel and Aisha. Sensei Lawrence walked through the rows of students. Cat saw him walk closer to her two friends.
"Nice shirt." Her sensei said to Demetri, which surprised her.
"Thanks."
"I'm joking it sucks," Demetri's face quickly fell at the response, yeah that made more sense. Sensei Lawrence made fun of a couple more students before he mad eit back to the front.
"When I look around this dojo, I don't see Cobra Kai material. I see losers, I see nerds. I see a fat kid with a funny hat with his tits popping out." This was going to be terrible .
"But in my short time as a sensei, I've also seen some miracles," he said looking over at his three current students who gave him smiles in return. "So maybe there's some hope for you yet."
"But first I need to see where you're at. So everybody fall in." The other kids whispered in confusion not moving. "That means line-up," Sensei tried to clarify which clearly did not work as they all just stood in a line behind Miguel, Aisha, and Cat. "No, not line up in a line. Lines, get in line!" Sensei again tried and failed to explain.
"Do you mean like 'rows'?" Demetri asked, "yes that is what he meant thank you metri." Cat said as their sensei put his face in his hands and groaned.
The potential students got into the rows after a couple more minutes of confusion.
"Fighting positions!" Sensei Lawrence shouted all the students following, the three current students did with confidence the others looking like they needed work.
"Jab punch," Sense said, some students doing small punches, "Nope wait till I say go."
"Hiyah!" Punch.
"Hiyah!" Punch.
"Hiyah!" Punch.
"Hiyah!" Punch.
Sensei walked around fixing people posture and positioning, slighlty insulting the students as he walked around. Cat wasn't really paying much attention to what he was saying until she heard, "hey, Lip." The girl faltered, and turned around to look at Eli who gave his sad eyes to their sensei. Ay, pobrecito.
"Yeah you. The one with the freaky lip who do you think I'm talking to?" Cat was about to defend Eli when she heard Demetri speak up, oh no.
"Excuse me Mr.Lawrence," the boy said, Aisha quickly trying to correct him, which the tall teen did not take seriously.
"You really shouldn't make fun of someone's physical appearance," Demetri continued.
"Oh, is that so. So I'm not supposed to mention his lip at all?" Sensei asked, Eli looked miserable at the conversation so Cat decided to step in.
"That is the normal thing to do," she said, sensei looked at her surprised she was defending this kid.
"Well, yeah," Demetri said like it was obvious.
"Maybe that's what they teach you at school, but in the real world, you can't expect people to do what they're supposed to do." Sensei said, Demetri stood in silence not knowing what to say.
"You hear that lip? If you can't handle someone making fun of you, how are you gonna handle an elbow to the teeth?"
"By calling the police," Demetri said looking at sensei lawrence like he was insane.
"Dude, knock it off," Miguel whispered from the side.
"Also those two things are just not comparable," Cat mumbled.
"What? He does realize the Nazis lost the war, right?" Demetri said making Cat laugh, not even trying to hide if from her sensei. "Why should I be scared of him? Because he's got a snake on his wall? It's not like he's a teacher who can give us a bad grade. We're paying him. He works for us. It's not like he can actually hurt us," Demetri finished speaking and Cat knew he just said the wrong thing.
Sensei Lawrence walked over to Demetri menacingly, everyone around the lanky teen moved away nervously.
"Are you done?" Johnny asked the boy that was confused. "Hit me. Go ahead hit me. Strike me right here, " Johnny pressed. Demetri got into a fighting position and thre a weak punch. Cat covered her eyes in embarrassment not being able to watch the scene unfold.
The girl didn't look back up until she heard a body hit the floor, unsurprising to the girl that body just so happened to be Demetri's.
"Let that be a lesson to all of you," Their sensei said, and with that their practice was over.

The next day Cat was walking to class with Eli, trying to reassure him about yesterday's events at the dojo.
"Listen Eli, he's like stuck in the 80s the man is insane, but I promise you will learn how to tune him out," The girl said hoping her words can convince him to stay at the dojo. Eli looked crestfallen, but sighed.
"Don't worry I'm still going to give it another shot, even though Demetri said it's stupid to," the boy said. The girl did a little jump for joy in the middle of the hallway making the sad boy finally crack a smile.
"Good don't listen to Metri he's an idiot," the girl said "And if Johnny says something to you today I'll take you out for ice cream after, my treat," said the girl looking at the boy with a smile. The boys breath hitched as she stared at him and just nodded his head, not trusting himself to speak.
The two made it to their class before they got to continue their conversation, but the butterflies in the girls stomach fluttered at the prospect of going on an almost date with Eli
