"quiver"

Catalina walked into the dojo with Eli as she talked about how she caught her Yaya smoking weed in the alley of their apartment the other night, Eli laughed at the girls dramatics. The two took their shoes off and made it on the mat, Eli hanging onto every word the girl said before their bubble bursted.

"OK everybody, fall in," said Sensei as he walked in making the students stop their conversations. "Where is everybody?"

"They quit sensei," Miguel said. The girl thought that would be obvious, their sensei on the other hand was clearly not expecting it.

"Are you serious?" The older man questioned looking around at the group that was left "I mean, good. That was a test. I wanted to see who the quitters are. Not you guys. You're in it to win it, right? You could be home playing your iComputers, playing your video games, eating candy. Instead you're here, doing pushups, learning how to fight." The man went on, and then he did something that Cat was dreading, he pointed at Eli.

"Lip.Look. Even Lip's tougher than those guys. He's no quitter," The man said, Cat glared at him and then Eli spoke next to her.

"Could you please not call me that?" Eli said nervously, eyes darting from the sensei to the girl next to him.

"Excuse me, what?"

"Could you please not call me that." Eli said a little more confidently, the girl was proud of the boy, but scared fro what may happen next, Miguel must've felt the same way as he interupted. "Um, I'll warm them up sensei."

"No, Lip has something he wants to say," their sensei walking closer to the boy, "sorry, speak up Lip. Or is your tongue messed up too?"

"Or maybe you're losing your hearing already," the girl said angrily at their sensei, who just held his hand up to the girl.

"Are you one of those challenged kids?" their sensei questioned as he got face to face with Eli.

"You really don't have to answer that," the girl said turning to Eli, who looked between her and the man in front of him.

"The doctor said I could be on the spectrum," the boy said ignoring the girl.

"I don't know what that is, but get off it pronto. All right? If you don't want me to call you "Lip" don't have a weird lip. Can't you get surgery?" their sensei said.

"I was born with a cleft lip. This is the scar from the surgery," Eli said.

"Which is not even that bad," Cat added.
