Chapter Two: Echoes of the Past

The cool evening air brushed against Y/N's skin as she continued walking in the gallery, her heart still unsettled by the paintings she had just seen. She paused at the entrance, instinctively scanning the dimly lit street. A chill ran down her spine, the feeling that someone was watching her from the shadows. Her eyes flicked toward the corner of the street, but there was nothing, no one. The city of Paris was alive with its usual hum, but the nagging sense of unease remained, like a whisper just out of earshot.

Shaking off the feeling, she exhaled and turned her attention back to the voices calling her name. A smile tugged at her lips as two familiar faces emerged from the crowd, their presence like a sudden burst of light in her quiet, isolated world.

Park Jimin and Kim Taehyung.

Apart from Lara, they were her best friends; the chaotic duo who had been with her through thick and thin appeared like they always did, with wide smiles and energy that seemed to vibrate around them

Apart from Lara, they were her best friends; the chaotic duo who had been with her through thick and thin appeared like they always did, with wide smiles and energy that seemed to vibrate around them.

"Y/N!" Jimin's voice rang out first, his smile radiant, eyes crinkling into crescents as he waved. Beside him, Taehyung mirrored the gesture, his deep, boxy grin warm and welcoming.

Y/N couldn't help but smile back, her earlier tension melting away at the sight of them. She often wondered how they always seemed to know where she was. They appeared at the most unexpected moments, but never once had she questioned it. Their friendship felt natural, like a piece of her life she hadn't realized she needed until they were there.

Jimin reached her first, pulling her into a tight hug, his hand patting her back with the kind of comfort that always grounded her. "You look like you've been in your head too long again," he teased, his voice softening with concern.

Y/N laughed lightly, her cheek pressing against his shoulder. "Maybe I have."

"Of course she has," Taehyung chimed in, stepping forward to embrace her after Jimin. He tousled her hair affectionately, his deep chuckle vibrating through her as he leaned back to study her face. His dark eyes softened with something deeper, something that always seemed to linger in their gazes when they looked at her for too long.

Y/N smiled, but there was always a part of her that wondered why they looked at her like that. As if they knew something she didn't. As if they were trying to tell her something without words. She had noticed the small moments, the way their eyes sometimes shimmered with a strange emotion, one that felt oddly protective, almost mournful. But she never pushed. It was just who they were.

"So," Jimin began, looping an arm around her shoulder as they started walking. "What's going on in that brilliant mind of yours today? More roses? Or is it the mystery man again?"

Y/N sighed, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Both, I guess. I don't know... it's like the more I paint, the less sense it all makes."

"Maybe because you're trying to force it," Taehyung said thoughtfully. "Sometimes things come to you when you stop searching so hard."
