Chapter Twenty: Bloody Thorns

Jungkook pulled Y/N closer, his fingers pressing into the curve of her waist, as if afraid she might slip away. The world around them faded, the laughter of the party, the distant sounds of the kingdom until there was nothing but them.

Her hands tangled in his hair, soft and cool against his heated skin. His lips moved against hers with an urgency neither of them had expected, a need that had been growing with every stolen glance, every unspoken word.

The roses swayed in the breeze, their petals brushing against their skin like whispers of fate. The moon above bathed them in silver light as if the universe itself had paused to witness this moment, the moment where longing met reality.

Jungkook finally broke the kiss, but only just. His forehead rested against hers, their breath mingling in the cool night air. His crimson eyes burned into her own, filled with something deeper than desire, something raw and unspoken.

"You don't know how long I've wanted this," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.

Y/N's fingers traced the sharp lines of his jaw. "I think I do," she whispered back, her heart racing.

His lips curled into a smirk, but there was softness in his gaze. "You're right," he admitted. "You feel it too."

She nodded, her fingers slipping down to rest against his chest, where his heart pounded just as wildly as hers. "Ever since that night in the garden," she confessed. "I knew."

Jungkook's hold on her tightened slightly as if grounding himself. "Then you understand why I have to protect you."

Her eyes darkened. "Jungkook-"

"You don't know what they would do to you if they found out," he interrupted, his voice lower now, filled with something almost desperate. "If your parents knew-"

Y/N looked away, biting her lip. She did know. And yet, she couldn't stop herself from loving him.

Her silence was enough of an answer. Jungkook cupped her face gently, tilting her chin back up. "No matter what happens, I will always come back to you."

Tears burned at the back of her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. Instead, she nodded, her hands gripping onto him like he was the only real thing in her world.

"I trust you," she whispered.

Jungkook exhaled, his thumb brushing over her cheek. "Good," he murmured, before pressing another soft kiss to her lips, a lingering promise in the night.

A sudden gust of wind sent a few rose petals swirling between them, and Jungkook sighed, knowing his time was running out.

He had fought countless battles. He had stood against enemies without flinching. But standing here, looking into her eyes, he felt truly vulnerable for the first time.

His fingers tightened around hers, afraid to let go. "I don't want to leave," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.

Y/N's lips parted, her own emotions crashing against her like a storm. "Then stay."

A sad smile ghosted across Jungkook's lips. "You know I can't."

She did. The world wouldn't allow it. Their kingdoms, their people, their bloodlines, everything stood between them.

But none of it mattered when he was here, standing before her, holding her like she was his entire world.

Y/N swallowed hard, forcing herself to be brave. "Jungkook," she whispered, her hands sliding up his chest. "Before you go... I need you to know."
