Chapter Seven: Painted in Red
The man was running, his breath labored, tearing through the cold streets of France. The night seemed to close in on him as his feet pounded the cobblestones, desperation twisting his movements into frantic stumbles. His heart hammered in his chest, each beat echoing like a war drum, its rhythm growing more erratic with every step.
He had seen something, a presence that shattered everything he thought he knew. Eyes dark as blood, a face not bound by humanity's fragile laws. The figure who emerged from the shadows was not human, but something far more ancient, far more terrifying.
A fatal mistake.
He had attacked the wrong woman, his woman. Now he was getting hunted.
That thought raced through his mind like a curse as he dashed down another narrow alley, hoping the twisting streets would somehow offer him refuge. His lungs burned with the effort, his legs heavy with the weight of dread. But no matter how fast he ran, he couldn't outrun the fear, the knowledge that something far more powerful was chasing him.
His steps faltered as he turned sharply into another street, only to be met by the suffocating stillness of the night. His eyes darted wildly, searching for a way out, but the shadows seemed to pulse, alive and waiting. He dared to hope that he had evaded his pursuer, but then he heard it, soft, deliberate footsteps, closing in, slow and relentless.
A chill crept up his spine, freezing him in place. He knew, in that instant, there was no escape. It wasn't a question of if he would be found, but when.
And then, like a breath of wind, he appeared.
Jungkook stepped from the darkness, his figure towering and silent in the dim glow of the streetlamp. The light barely touched him, his presence commanding the night around him. His face was calm, but his eyes, his eyes burned with an intensity hotter than the flames of the sun. Fury, pure and cold, radiated from him like an unstoppable force.
The man froze, his breath caught in his throat. This wasn't a man, this was a storm wrapped in human form, and it was coming for him because he had dared to touch the one thing he shouldn't have.
"You thought you could run from me?" Jungkook's voice was a low growl, colder than the midnight air. "After what you tried to do to her?" His steps were slow, deliberate, as he closed the distance between them. "You thought you could just walk away?"
The man stumbled backward, his legs quaking beneath him. "I didn't know- I didn't mean to!" he stammered, his voice trembling. "Please, I didn't know she was-"
But before he could finish, Jungkook was on him. He moved faster than the man could see, one-second standing still, the next slamming him against the stone wall of the alley. The man's breath escaped in a sharp gasp as Jungkook's grip tightened around his throat, lifting him off the ground as though he weighed nothing.
