A month later, things came to a head.It was late at night, and Jimin had just gotten back to his apartment after attending a party thrown by one of his classmates. He was exhausted but happy, the night having been filled with laughter, music, and dancing.
Jimin unlocked his phone, ready to text Jungkook a quick goodnight, when he saw that he had missed several messages and calls from him. His heart dropped.
Jungkook: Where are you?
Jungkook: Why aren’t you answering?
Jungkook: Are you with him again?Jimin's stomach twisted. He immediately called Jungkook, his hands trembling slightly as he waited for him to pick up.
When Jungkook’s face appeared on the screen, Jimin could see the anger and hurt etched into his features.
“Where have you been?” Jungkook demanded, his voice sharp and accusatory.
Jimin blinked in surprise, his tired brain struggling to process the question. “I… I was at a party with some classmates. I told you I was going, remember?”
Jungkook’s eyes narrowed. “Yeah, well, you didn’t tell me you’d be out all night, ignoring my calls.”
Jimin rubbed his forehead, already feeling the exhaustion of another argument. “I wasn’t ignoring you. I just… I lost track of time. It was loud, and I didn’t hear my phone.”
“Of course,” Jungkook muttered bitterly. “Too busy with Lucas and your new friends to even check in with me.”
Jimin felt his temper flare. “Jungkook, I told you before, Lucas is just a friend! Why are you acting like this?”
“Because you’re in Paris, living it up, and I’m stuck here, wondering if you even care about me anymore!” Jungkook snapped, his frustration spilling over.
Jimin’s eyes widened, hurt by the accusation. “How can you say that? Of course, I care about you! I love you, Jungkook.”
“If you loved me, you wouldn’t be making me feel like this,” Jungkook shot back, his voice laced with pain. “I don’t know what’s going on with you anymore. You’re out there, making new memories, and I’m just… forgotten.”
Jimin’s heart clenched, guilt washing over him. But at the same time, he felt anger bubbling up. “I’m not forgetting about you! I’m trying my best to balance everything, but it’s hard, Jungkook. I didn’t come here to hurt you.”
Jungkook stared at him, his eyes hard. “Maybe you didn’t. But that’s exactly what’s happening.”
Jimin felt the weight of Jungkook’s words settle in his chest. He wanted to defend himself, to explain that he was trying, but the truth was that he didn’t know how to fix things. The distance, the jealousy, the pressure—it was all starting to feel like too much.
“I don’t know what you want me to do,” Jimin said quietly, his voice breaking. “I’m doing everything I can, but it’s never enough.”
Jungkook’s expression softened for a moment, seeing the hurt in Jimin’s eyes, but the frustration was still there. “I just want us to be okay, Jimin. But right now, it feels like we’re falling apart.”
Jimin’s chest tightened, tears threatening to spill over. “I don’t want that.”
“Neither do I,” Jungkook said, his voice barely above a whisper.
For a long moment, they just stared at each other, the weight of everything they hadn’t said hanging between them.
Finally, Jimin spoke, his voice shaky. “Maybe… maybe we need to take a break.”
Jungkook’s eyes widened, shock and hurt flashing across his face. “What?”
“I don’t want to lose you, Jungkook,” Jimin said, his voice trembling. “But I don’t know how to make this work right now. Maybe some space… maybe it will help us figure things out.”
Jungkook was silent, his jaw clenched, his heart shattering at Jimin’s words. After a long pause, he finally nodded, though his voice was strained. “If that’s what you want.”
“It’s not what I want,” Jimin whispered. “But I don’t know what else to do.”
Jungkook swallowed hard, blinking back the sting of tears. “Okay. If that’s what you need.”
Jimin nodded, his own heart breaking at the sight of the man he loved hurting. “I’m sorry.”
Jungkook gave him a tight smile, though it didn’t reach his eyes. “Yeah. Me too.”
And with that, they hung up, leaving both of them sitting in silence, thousands of miles apart
