The next few days were a blur for Jimin. He threw himself into his work, but the image of Jungkook with that stranger kept creeping back into his mind, taunting him. He found himself checking Jungkook’s social media more often than he’d like to admit, searching for any sign of who that person was, but there was nothing. No tags, no further posts—just silence.

One evening, after a particularly exhausting day, Jimin couldn’t take it anymore. He grabbed his phone and opened their chat. His thumb hovered over the keyboard, debating whether or not to say something. He knew they were supposed to be giving each other space, but he couldn’t hold it in any longer.

Finally, he typed out a message.

Jimin: Who was that on the bike with you?

He stared at the screen, his heart pounding as he waited for a response. Minutes passed, and just as Jimin began to wonder if Jungkook would even reply, his phone buzzed.

Jungkook: It’s just someone I met during the ride tour. Why?

Jimin frowned at the casualness of Jungkook’s response. Just someone? He bit his lip, trying to calm the surge of emotions bubbling up inside him. But he couldn’t stop himself from responding.

Jimin: They were holding onto you pretty tight for ‘just someone.’

There was a long pause before Jungkook replied.

Jungkook: It’s what people do on bikes, Jimin. They hold on for safety.

The logical part of Jimin knew Jungkook was right. He had seen plenty of people ride motorcycles like that. But this wasn’t just anyone—it was Jungkook. And after everything they had been through, seeing someone else so close to him felt like a stab to the heart.

Jimin: It just… it looked like more than that.

Another pause, longer this time.

Jungkook: Are you jealous?

Jimin’s stomach twisted. Was he? Of course he was, but he didn’t want to admit it. He didn’t want to come off as the insecure one, especially after Jungkook had been the one jealous of his life in Paris.

Jimin: I’m not jealous… I just didn’t expect to see that.

This time, Jungkook didn’t reply right away. The minutes stretched on, and Jimin felt a gnawing sense of regret for starting the conversation in the first place. But before he could type out a follow-up message, his phone buzzed again.

Jungkook: I didn’t mean for it to upset you. We said we needed space, so I thought I could… I don’t know… enjoy some freedom too.

The words hit Jimin hard. He had been so focused on his own hurt that he hadn’t considered what this break might mean to Jungkook. But even if they were on a break, it didn’t make the jealousy any easier to bear.

Jimin: I know. I just… I miss you, okay? I hate seeing someone else so close to you.

There was another long pause, and Jimin’s heart raced as he waited for Jungkook’s response.

Jungkook: I miss you too, Jimin. But we agreed on this break. Maybe we need to figure out if this is really what we want.

Jimin felt his chest tighten. The uncertainty in Jungkook’s words terrified him. Was Jungkook questioning their entire relationship now? Was this break turning into something more permanent?

Jimin: Do you still want this? Us?

His hands trembled as he sent the message. The minutes stretched into what felt like hours before Jungkook finally responded.

Jungkook: I don’t know, Jimin. I’m trying to figure it out.

Jimin’s heart sank as he stared at the screen, the weight of Jungkook’s words crushing him. He had always believed that no matter what, they would find their way back to each other. But now, with this break and the distance between them, he wasn’t so sure.

For the first time, Jimin realized that maybe—just maybe—things weren’t going to be the same when the break was over.
