Charis POV :
Like a demon seeking a moment of weakness, my ex would sometimes reach out to me. I found myself in a strange battle—half of me wanted to connect, to relive the memories we shared, while the other half knew that our story had come to an end. Usually, I'd ignore him or respond with a polite message wishing him well, reminding him that I wanted us both to move on. Deep down, I still loved him, but I recognized that love alone wasn't enough to bring us back together. It didn't mean I had to forget; it meant I needed to integrate my past into a new narrative.
Living in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town, my days often blurred into a routine dominated by family obligations. I became the sole breadwinner, managing our household and taking care of family members who depended on me. The pressure was immense, and I frequently neglected myself in the process. I had convinced myself that putting my family first was what I was meant to do, but in doing so, I overlooked my own well-being.
Moving on from a breakup after two years isn't as simple as finding closure—it's a complex journey filled with self-discovery. I've learned that moving forward doesn't mean leaving pieces of my heart behind; rather, it's about weaving those pieces into the fabric of who I am becoming. Acknowledging my feelings has been a vital part of this healing process. It's okay to experience waves of sadness, but I must also create space for joy.
