Days after his mother and siblings left in search of food and never returned, the baby snail, now brimming with both fear and determination, decided he could no longer wait. He had to find them. Summoning the strength to venture out, he left the safety of the bushes and began his search.
The rain-soaked world around him felt vast and unforgiving, but he pressed on, weaving through the wet leaves and underbrush, calling out silently in his heart for his family. Hours passed, but there was no sign of his mother or his siblings. The loneliness weighed heavy on him.
Suddenly, he caught a faint scent in the air—something familiar yet troubling. It was the distinct smell of snail slime, but not just any slime. This was the scent that came when a snail was hurt, injured, or worse. His small body trembled, but he followed the scent, knowing he had no other choice.
As he inched closer, his heart sank. There, scattered among the bushes, he found the remains of his entire clan, brutally murdered. Broken shells, lifeless bodies—everything he had feared was now a horrifying reality. The baby snail’s heart raced, his tiny body filled with panic and sorrow as he searched desperately for any sign of his mother and siblings still alive.
Then, just ahead, he saw her—his mother, lying on the ground, taking what seemed to be her last breaths. Her shell was cracked, her movements slow. The baby snail rushed to her side, his tiny tears mixing with the rain.
"Mom... Mom!" he cried, nudging her softly.
With great effort, the mother snail lifted her head slightly, her voice weak but filled with love. "My... baby... you need to go... now," she whispered. "The humans from the house... they are hunting us. When they see you, they will kill you too. You must hide. Hide as fast as you can."
"But, Mom... I don’t want to leave you," the baby snail sobbed, refusing to leave her side.
"You have to survive... for us," his mother pleaded. "Go... before it’s too late."
Tears streaming down his face, the baby snail knew he had no choice. He kissed his mother one last time and turned away, crawling as fast as his small body would allow. He dove into the thick bushes just as the sound of heavy human footsteps approached.
From his hiding place, he watched in horror as the humans from the house stepped carelessly over the bodies of the snails, crushing shells beneath their feet. They carried large bags of salt, spreading it everywhere, killing any snails that dared to remain. The baby snail trembled, knowing that if they saw him, his fate would be the same.
In the shadows of the bushes, the baby snail grieved for his mother, for his family, and for the life he had lost. But in his heart, something else began to grow—anger. He vowed that one day, he would avenge his family.
