The Shadow of the Gita
The Menendez house was shrouded in tense silence, broken only by the sound of Erik's nervous footsteps as he paced back and forth in the room.
Lyle watched him, his arms crossed, his face set in an expression of dark reflection.
"We can't go on like this," Erik whispered, stopping suddenly and glaring at his brother.
"We have to do something. The plan... we need to speed up the plan, Lyle."
Lyle looked at him, his eyes clouded with a tiredness that went beyond simple lack of sleep.
It was a tiredness of the soul, the weight of too many lies, too many hidden wounds.
"I know, but we can't make rash moves. It has to be perfect. We cannot afford mistakes."
As they spoke softly, the sound of the landline echoed in the room.
Lyle turned to the phone with a dark foreboding.
"It's mom," he said barely audibly, already knowing what was going to happen.
Erik took a step back, clenching his fists. "Don't answer."
But Lyle already knew they had no choice. He hesitantly picked up the receiver and raised it to his ear. "Hello?"

Kitty's soft, almost hypnotic voice made its way through the line.
"Lyle, honey. I have a surprise for you and your brother. Dad and I have planned a wonderful boat trip for tomorrow. It will be just for the four of us, a relaxing day with the family. I look forward to spending time together."
Lyle felt his blood run cold in his veins.
"A boat trip?" he asked, trying to mask the uneasiness that was growing within him. "Really, Mom? Can't we postpone it?" Erik interrupted, walking over to Lyle and speaking into the receiver.
"We already have plans for tomorrow..." Kitty giggled with a lightness that made them shiver.
"No excuses, darlings. It's all ready. Tomorrow morning at eight. Don't miss it." The line went dead with a click, and Lyle dropped the receiver with a look of desperation.
"We can't fucking go," he said softly, but the awareness of being trapped was already starting to creep in between them.

The next morning, the sun was shining brightly as the Menendezes headed for the harbor.
Lyle and Erik sat in the backseat of the car, both stiff as statues, their eyes staring out the window.
The tension between them was almost tangible, and every kilometer traveled towards the port seemed like a sentence. When they arrived, the sight of the boat, a beautiful white vessel glistening in the sun, only added to their terror.
Lyle squeezed Erik's shoulder, trying to give him strength. "There's no turning back now," she whispered, as her parents waited smiling for them on the dock.

José approached the boys, adjusting his sunglasses on his nose. "Come on, guys. It will be an unforgettable day."
The tone of his voice was soft, but there was something menacing hidden underneath.
Lyle and Erik exchanged a look, knowing what was coming.
But what they didn't expect was the number of people already on board.
Family friends, acquaintances, all ready to enjoy the day at sea.
Kitty gave a cold look at José, who simply clenched his jaw in frustration.
The plan to kill their children had been compromised, at least for that day.
During the trip, the sea seemed to mirror the tension between the Menendezes.
Lyle and Erik kept their distance from their parents, trying to behave normally, while Kitty and José desperately searched for a way to be alone with the kids.
But the constant coming and going of people prevented any move.
"There's nothing they can do today," Lyle whispered to Erik as they leaned over the railing of the boat.
"But we have to be ready. It's just a matter of time."
Erik nodded, but the fear in his gaze was palpable.
"I don't know how much longer we can hold out."

The day had come to an end and it was time for the Menendez family to go home.
While Josè and Kitty went to the car, Lyle and Erik remained on the railing where they could see the beautiful landscape with a beautiful sunset.
The two parents saw that the two did not want to come so without asking many questions they got into the car and sped towards their house.
The Menendez brothers wanted the plan to be put into action as soon as possible before their own parents take them out.
