**The next morning, Petey went up to Dogman, holding the translator in his hands. The translator was built to look like a dog collar, the speaker in the shape of the cop badge. "Hey Dogman." Dogman turned around to look at Petey. He was sitting at the table, eating some kibble for breakfast. "I uhhh, I finished the translator earlier. Here." He handed Dogman the translator. Dogman took it, as he was putting it on, he noticed the dark circles under Petey's eye. He pointed to them. "Oh, these?" He pointed to the circles as Dogman nodded. "It's normal, don't worry. I got some sleep." He tried to smile reassuringly, but it didn't convince Dogman. He clipped the translator around his neck. "Ok, so how this works is that it translates your barks into human words. Try it out." Dogman barked, and nothing happened. The translator sparked, but said nothing. "Damnit. . ." He took the translator off of DogMan's neck. "I must've miscalculated something. . ." He studied his invention for a second before shaking his head. He started to head back to his room before Dogman put a hand on Petey's shoulder. Petey could feel his face heat up for some reason. Was he. . . blushing!? No, it's probably just hot in here. "Yeah, Dogman?" He turned around to look at him. Dogman pointed to the kitchen, then back at Petey. "Oh. Yeah, I probably should have some breakfast." He headed towards the kitchen to get some cereal, Kitty Catnip to be exact. After eating eat, he turned around to go back to his room to work on the translator. He found Lil' Petey staring at him. "Oh, hey kid." "Hi papa! Do ya wanna see a comic i made?" His son grinned up at him. "Of course kid." It reminded Petey of himself when he was younger. He used to make comics and drawings for his dead-beat dad. He always told him they sucked, and usually ripped them up. Damn dad. . . "Papa?" Fuck. "Sorry kid, I zoned out a bit. Let's see your new comic."
** "The end!" LP said as he finished reading his comic to Petey. This kid is getting better every time "Did ya like it papa?" "Of course kid! I have to go finish Dogman's translator now, ok kid?" "Can I still help ya, papa?" He looked at his son for a minute, who was looking up at him with a gleam of excitement in his eyes. I'm still not sure I deserve you kid. . . "Sure. I have some problems I need to figure out still." He stood up and went to his room, LP following close behind. "Ya probably mixed up your millimeters and centimeters again." Petey sighed "Probably. . ."
**[TIMESKIP]
** Petey wiped beads of sweat off of his furry forehead. "Phew! I think we're done, kid." He looked down at his son, who looked liked he was about to fall asleep. "Yay...!" Petey smiled softly at his son. "I think you need a nap. This must've worn you out." At the sound of the word "nap" Lil' Petey widened his eyes to look more awake "I don't need a nap papa! I'm too old for naps, and I'm not tired, see!" He pointed to his eyes, which still looked tired even thought they were widened. "I don't believe you kid, sorry." He picked up lil' Petey, who was too tired to protest. He walked over to his "bed" which was just a box filled with fluffy stuffing. He gently laid his son down on his bed, who was already softly snoring. He chuckled. How did someone like me managed to get such a sweet kid. . .?
