Stella's POV
As we settled around a large table, the café buzzed with energy. Arnold's friends—Jordan and Enzo—immediately claimed the center of attention, their banter filling the air. "So, what's the deal with you two?" Jordan asked, a smirk on his face as he leaned back in his chair.
I exchanged a quick glance with Arnold, feeling the heat rise to my cheeks. "We're just hanging out!" I replied, trying to sound casual.
"Right, hanging out," Enzo chimed in, clearly unconvinced. "Sure looks like you're practicing for the next romantic comedy!"
Allison and Jenli giggled, while I playfully kicked Arnold under the table. "You're not helping, guys!"
Arnold laughed, a rich sound that sent butterflies fluttering in my stomach. "We just enjoy each other's company. It's not a big deal."
"Not a big deal?" Jordan echoed. "You should see the way you look at each other. It's like watching a sappy movie!"
I couldn't help but smile at Arnold, who was trying to play it cool but was clearly flustered. The playful teasing from our friends made the atmosphere light, and I felt my nerves ease as we all shared stories and laughter.
At one point, Jenli turned to me, her expression mischievous. "So, Stella, have you shown Arnold your latest dance routine? I heard it's inspired by the waves of the ocean!"
"Not yet!" I replied, my heart racing at the thought. "But maybe I should give him a sneak peek."
Arnold raised an eyebrow, curiosity dancing in his eyes. "I'd love to see it. Just don't laugh if I try to do it too!"
"Deal! But I can't promise I won't laugh!" I shot back, my laughter mingling with everyone else's.
As the evening unfolded, Arnold and I found ourselves exchanging secret smiles across the table, the chemistry between us undeniable. I felt supported by my friends and invigorated by the camaraderie around us.
When the café started winding down, we decided to head to a nearby park to continue the fun. Under the soft glow of string lights, we set up a small area for games. Jordan challenged Arnold to a friendly game of basketball, while Allison and Jenli teamed up for some ridiculous charades.
I found myself sitting next to Arnold on the grass, enjoying the chaos around us. "This is great," I said, leaning back on my hands. "I'm really glad we did this."
"Me too," he replied, his voice low and sincere. "It's nice to just hang out without all the pressure."
In that moment, I felt the walls I had built around my insecurities start to crumble. Surrounded by friends, laughter, and the warmth of Arnold's presence.
