The sun hung low in the sky as Diana and Bucky—now going by their undercover names Serena and Richard—settled into the modest but upscale house that was their new base of operations. They had been relocated to this suburban neighborhood to blend in as part of the mission, posing as a wealthy couple with connections to an elite mob gang. Their task was to infiltrate the upcoming event, get close to the targets, and gather crucial intel.

Diana—Serena—adjusted her sunglasses as she stood on the front porch, waiting beside Bucky. He looked sharp in his casual but tailored suit, his demeanor calm and confident as always. The target couple, the ones hosting the event they needed to attend, approached them with friendly smiles, eager to welcome the new arrivals into the neighborhood.

"Serena, Richard," the woman greeted warmly, extending her hand to Diana first. "We've heard so much about you. Welcome to the neighborhood. My husband and I were hoping you'd join us at our little gathering tomorrow evening."

Diana smiled sweetly, stepping into her role effortlessly. "Thank you, that sounds lovely," she said, her voice holding just the right amount of charm. "We've been looking forward to meeting everyone."

Beside her, Bucky—Richard—nodded, his hand gently resting on Diana's lower back as he greeted the couple. "We appreciate the warm welcome," he added, his tone easygoing but professional. He could play the role of the charming, mysterious businessman flawlessly, his intense blue eyes betraying nothing of the real mission underneath the surface.

The target couple couldn't have been more pleased. They exchanged small talk for a while, asking about the background stories Diana and Bucky had carefully crafted for themselves. They slipped into their roles so naturally, so in sync, that the couple had no idea just how close the two really were. It felt as though they were born for this kind of work.

"You'll fit right in at the event," the man said, his arm slung around his wife. "We'll make sure to introduce you to the right people. It's always good to have friends in high places, right?"

Diana—Serena—laughed softly, her hand resting lightly on Bucky's arm. "Absolutely. Networking is everything in our line of work."

As they finished the conversation and the couple waved goodbye, Diana and Bucky watched them disappear down the street. The second they were out of sight, Diana's smile faded into something more serious, her sharp mind already processing every detail of the interaction.

"They're going to keep an eye on us the entire time," Diana murmured, stepping closer to Bucky. "We'll need to stay completely in character at the event. They can't suspect anything."

Bucky's arm slipped around her waist as he nodded, his expression calm but focused. "We've got this," he said confidently, leaning in slightly. "Besides, we've been in worse situations."

Diana's lips curled into a smile at his reassurance. "True. But we've never had to play a couple like this before," she teased, nudging him playfully. "You think we can pull it off?"

Bucky chuckled softly, his gaze softening as he met her eyes. "You and me? We're more than convincing. They won't know what hit them."

Diana couldn't help but laugh lightly, her heart racing in a way that had nothing to do with the mission. She knew Bucky was right—they were in perfect sync, their connection undeniable. But it wasn't just about the mission anymore. The lines between the roles they were playing and their real feelings for each other were starting to blur.

As the evening wore on, Diana and Bucky settled into the house, preparing for the event that would take place the next day. They practiced their cover stories, bantered playfully as they rehearsed their lines, and even slipped into casual moments of affection that felt almost too real. Bucky would brush a hand against her cheek, or Diana would lean into his side without thinking twice, their chemistry natural and effortless.

"Serena and Richard," Diana mused later that night, as they sat together on the couch, legs stretched out and wine glasses in hand. "We make a pretty good couple."

Bucky glanced over at her, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. "Yeah, but Serena doesn't kiss Richard nearly enough."

Diana's eyebrow raised at his playful remark, her heart skipping a beat as she leaned closer. "No?" she whispered, her lips just inches from his. "Well, maybe she should start."

Without another word, she closed the distance between them, pressing her lips softly against his. The kiss was slow, deliberate, but filled with an intensity that caught them both off guard. When they finally pulled away, they were both smiling, their bond now unmistakable.

"You think that'll convince them?" Diana asked, her voice teasing as she rested her head on Bucky's shoulder.

Bucky chuckled, pulling her closer. "Oh, I think they'll believe we're in love, alright."

As the night deepened, they stayed close, their hearts and minds in sync as they prepared for the dangerous task ahead. But for now, in this moment, it was just the two of them—no secrets, no missions—just Diana and Bucky.
