My alarm went off from when I needed to wake up, which did remind me that I had lectures to attend. And so, I closed the game, and headed off to class.
As I walked out and filled my lungs with the air of trees, I almost felt a full reset to my wellbeing. As if now, my mind is just waking in tandem with the sun, I welcomed it as an old friend and each of us went about their day.
Everything just seemed so much more beautiful than the days of before. And now I start to realize how much of a gift this whole thing may be, thank you Harpy.
'You are very welcome.'
I sit in the lecture and attend it; it all is very rudimentary and dull. My mind cannot help drift off a couple of times during the lecture. And then I reached a point where I could simply not be present at all, and so I motioned to turn on the internet on my laptop so I could browse it for a couple of minutes then go back to paying attention.
As my mouse hovered over the Wi-Fi button, I hesitated, as a thought that was brewing in the back of my mind struggled to be heard, and I simply did not get why pressing the button would be all bad.
But to my incredible mounts of luck, that thought did rise out of the dirt and come to the forefront of my mind, and my finger that was about to press the button hovered in the air as I gained clarity.
I demonstrated my powers in front of the laptop.
I immediately veered my mouse to the side and threw my hand away while shaking it. I almost just made the worst mistake of my life, just a mere day after gett—
WAIT!
I stopped thinking, I tried my best to not think of anything and only focus on my breathing, but I was in a very tense situation, and some mini thoughts may have snuck past my dam. Instead, I decided to speak to Harpy, in order to divert my attention on a gamble.
Harpy, please tell me about my predicament.
'Low level Telepaths can read your thoughts that you speak of in your mind, and do not worry as they cannot hear our exchange, or at least, my part in it.'
I diverted all my attention to his words as best as I could. Relief shaking me to my core, the gambit paid off.
'I must applaud you for your quick thinking, well done.' He noted 'You also must know that higher level Telepaths can hear your deeper thoughts, however, because of their extreme rarity, It would be impractical to give them any consideration in your endeavours at this current time and place.'
Just in case, I decided to turn on my Power Sense and see if there were any others, in here with me. Only to see no one else.
How can Telepaths know automatically which thoughts to read? Could they pick out mine?
'They would be bombarded with all the thoughts presented, but the talk of powers and such would always stick out, no matter how drowned out. As they would stick out not unlike a tree in an open field.'
I decided to just leave the lecture, packing my things, and heading for the outside. Still not used to how accepted this behaviour is in university. I head back to my accommodation. On the way there, I decide that getting a song stuck in my head and only thinking about it would be the best tactic to calm my thoughts.
I close the door behind me and spread across my bed as much as I can, laying on my back.
Even though it was relatively safe in the lecture, I did not want to risk being out in public. I am fortunate in that attendance is not required in lectures and that all study materials are published online, but how will I deal with the seminars which do require attendance? I check my phone and see, the next one is in two days. At least I have some time.
