Adira’s POV
The evening breeze gently rustled the dupatta draped over my shoulder as we all stood on the terrace, its expanse as grand as the palace below us. From here, the whole estate could be seen—lush gardens sprawling out, blooming in the soft hues of the setting sun, making everything seem ethereal. The evening light had a way of casting the world in gold, turning even the ordinary into something beautiful.
"Bhabhi, aapko ab accha lag raha hai?" Mridula’s voice broke through the serenity, her question laced with warmth.
I gave her a small, genuine smile, trying to let the unease settle. “Umm, haan. Kaafi better feel ho raha hai,” I replied, feeling the tension in my shoulders ease just a bit.
"I can understand," Meera chimed in, stepping closer. "When I first met everyone, I was so nervous, but they made me feel like family, so welcoming, so good." Her words were reassuring, and her experience offered a glimpse of hope.
"Haan, bhabhi. Ek baar shaadi ho jaane dijiye, phir dekhna, hum aapko apni family kabhi miss nahi karne denge," Vaibhav added cheerfully. His wide grin was infectious, and I found myself smiling back.
A slight pause fell over the conversation before Mridula, sensing something, asked, “Kya hua bhabhi, kuch soch rahi ho?”
I hesitated, biting my lip slightly before confessing, “Actually, aap sab ‘bhabhi’ bula rahe ho, and it's feeling a little strange, you know, for the first time.”
Vaibhav let out a hearty laugh. “Arre bhabhi, aap bhi na. Aadat daal lijiye. Ranveer bhaiya sabse bade hain, toh hum sab aapko bhabhi hi bulayenge.”
Meera nodded in agreement, her eyes sparkling. “Haan, shuru shuru mein ajeeb lagega, but trust me, you’ll get used to it. Experience se bol rahi hoon,” she said, giving me a playful wink.
Mridula suddenly grinned, her eyes scanning my attire. “Waise, bhabhi, aap bahut pretty lag rahi ho. Yeh blue color toh aap pe bahut accha lag raha hai! Aur pata hai? Ranveer bhai ka favorite color bhi blue hai.”
I looked down at my peacock blue suit, the long sleeves hugging my arms delicately, the rich fabric flowing effortlessly as I moved. The dupatta, heavy with intricate embroidery, draped perfectly, and my heels clicked softly against the terrace floor. I wasn’t usually the type to wear traditional outfits—most of the time I am in formals—but today was an exception. Traditional had always held a special place in my heart, especially earrings. My love for them was never-ending, and today I had chosen a pair of heavy jhumkas that swayed gently with each step.
But as soon as Mridula mentioned his name—Ranveer—a sudden knot tightened in my stomach. I had never met him, not properly anyway, but his reputation preceded him. What I’d heard was enough to unsettle anyone. Ruthless, cruel, a man who led both his business empire and the underworld with an iron fist. He had built the Rathore Group of Industries from the ground up, taking it to the pinnacle of success, but the other side of his life, the mafia dealings, was something that sent shivers down my spine.
I shrugged off the thoughts, focusing on the present. I couldn’t let the unknown consume me now. I smiled sweetly at Mridula. “Thank you,” I said softly, keeping the unease hidden behind my smile.
