"Oh my God." Laney giggled despite herself as she looked at the well-worn army boot she had just trodden on. "I am so sorry." Her next giggle caught in her throat as she looked at the face of the man who owned the abused foot. His chestnut brown eyes twinkled with mirth as a generous smile spread across his handsome face.
"That's a unique way to meet people." He chuckled. He tucked a stray strand of dark, wavy hair behind his ear with his right hand.
Gladness at his lack of anger registered as she took in his thin hooped nose ring that surprisingly added to his good looks. She was mesmerized and amazed that she was attracted to this dark haired, bearded, bad boy. Had she not seen him smile so warmly she would have assumed he was a brooding, suffering actor who was still a waiter waiting for his big break. She was in Massachusetts, not L.A., she had to readjust her thinking and get back to her East Coast roots.
"It's totally my fault for walking backwards." Laney giggled foolishly. "Are you okay?" she added in her sensible voice.
"Yeah. You?"
He was a man of few words. Laney smiled and held in a chuckle. "Yes, I am fine. Thank you. I promise to be more careful. Have a lovely day." She started her departure a bit reluctantly. He was certainly pleasant to look at and she surely didn't have any more run left in her.
"I'm sorry about the coffee."
Laney stopped her retreat. "What?"
"I hope the coffee doesn't stain your shirt?"
"Coffee?" For the first time she noticed the mostly empty coffee cup in his hand causing her to do her best impression of a dog chasing his tail as she tried to see the coffee stain on her back. She was so sweaty and embarrassed about running into him she hadn't even notice that she had caused him to spill coffee on her back.
His chuckles caused her to stop whirling around. She tried to give him an annoyed look but ended up joining in his laughter.
"Let me buy you another coffee. I am so sorry about that."
The smile he gave her caused a slight blush to rise on her cheeks.
"We could meet here for coffee tomorrow. My treat." He smiled at her with slightly raised eyebrows waiting for her response.
