Jackson admired his mom's painting. For Laney satisfaction and pride were foreign emotions, she took a moment to savor them. She wanted this for her boys as well, the feeling of accomplishment and pride in what you did. She would challenge them more. Maybe playing a game with each of them tonight would be a good way to do that. It would certainly be fun and good bonding time.
Laney hated herself for her next thought; she had to cement her relationship with her boys so they would like her better than her and their father. She knew it was wrong but she lived in the real world and more often than not Jeff was going to make her the bad guy. She was going to be the one making them do homework, cleaning their room, saying no to the things they could not afford anymore. Jeff and the floozy were going to be the fun parents who only saw the boys on the weekend and didn't enforce any rules. How could she compete with that? She would start competing now. It was the summer and they were going to have fun.
Her parent's best friends were coming over today with their grandchildren who were about the same age as her boys. In fact their oldest were only three weeks apart.
They had no family in California. The boys will love meeting all their family and learning what it is like to have family around. They had ten cousins between the ages of thirteen and four living locally. Eight were boys; the four and thirteen year old were the girls. A grand smile split her face because she knew Alex and Jackson were going to love having all of their cousins to play with. Being here was the best choice she could have made.
