A Belated Introduction

Welcome   to the world of the love lives of the cowboys and cowgirls of Yellowstone! I want to give you a brief introduction to what I'm doing and why, without spoilers, I hope.

We writers bring our own version of this story and I'm no exception. In my version of this universe there are no scarred and abused orphans, no murdered parents, just OC female characters who have led happy lives. And fallen in and out of love with the hands in the bunkhouse.

One thing I've noticed is the majority of the O/C characters in this fandom are female. I'm no exception, it was the only logical way to pursue a story line. How could there not be with so many happy sexy cowboys out there. One thing I did do is bring in another Dutton family. I know that John tells Monica that his mom had a baby boy that lived about eighteen hours and after that, "didn't have the heart" to try again, so I gave John an older brother who is the father of my O/C characters.

I accidentally left out Lee. I liked his character and felt sorry for him, John laid a lot of expectations on him, and he wasn't living up to them. I think Lee would have done all right for himself and the Yellowstone given time. The story is too far along for it to be possible to include his character now. Wish I had thought to write him in, I maybe would not have killed him, but oh well.

I can't bear to separate Rip and Beth or Kayce and Monica. These characters are so ingrained in the story that it just seems wrong to change it. Fortunately, Ryan was available, and Travis. I think they're both sexy, in their own ways. Taylor Sheridan rides a horse like he was born to it, he's a real cowboy and I think it comes across in his writing, so I used him. If you've been reading my story you'll know that I've included Ryan now, too.

I've tried not to borrow too much from the original story. Those of you who like to link the fan fiction with the seasons of the television series will be disappointed. The timeline here is my own. The majority of my story is strictly my own, so I wasn't bound to following the series' storyline. I have borrowed here and there, mostly because Taylor Sheridan's writing is so compelling.

I hope you enjoy reading this, I've certainly enjoyed writing it, though I notice I've slowed down some. Don't quite know how to finish it since the second half of season five has yet to air. I hope they don't lose the ranch, I don't think Beth's idea to sell processed beef is the answer. And I hope she doesn't succeed in killing Jamie!

Happy reading!
