Part 3.1 – The Discovery of Froststone

The story of the discovery of Froststone is a tale that has been passed down through generations, its details etched into the very fabric of Boreas' history. It is a story of desperation, survival, and an unlikely miracle that saved the people from the brink of extinction. In the early days, when the first settlers arrived on Boreas, they were unprepared for the brutal reality of the planet's endless winter. Their technology, so advanced and reliable on other worlds, failed them here. The cold was too intense, the wind too fierce, and the supplies they brought with them dwindled far faster than they had anticipated.

The settlers were on the verge of giving up, their hope fading as quickly as the warmth in their bodies. They had nowhere to turn, no way to fight the relentless cold that threatened to swallow them whole. But then, in their darkest hour, they discovered something extraordinary—Froststone.

The discovery was nothing short of a miracle. While digging deep beneath the ice in a desperate search for shelter, the settlers stumbled upon a mineral unlike anything they had ever seen. At first glance, it appeared to be nothing more than an ordinary rock, but when exposed to heat, it ignited with a blue-white flame that burned hotter and longer than any fuel they had known. The settlers quickly realized that they had found the key to their survival.

Froststone was more than just a fuel—it was a lifeline. With it, they could build fires that would keep the cold at bay, hearths that would provide warmth for their homes, and power for their machines. The discovery of Froststone allowed them to establish permanent settlements, to build the cities that now dot the frozen landscape of Boreas. Without it, they would have perished, their bodies lost to the ice, their dreams buried beneath the snow.

The miners who extract Froststone today are among the most revered members of society, their work essential to the survival of the people. It is dangerous, grueling work, carried out in the most extreme conditions imaginable. But the miners do their work with pride, knowing that without them, the fires of Boreas would go out, and the cold would reclaim what it had lost.

Future Glimpse!
Froststone, the very substance that keeps Frosthold alive, will become the catalyst for conflict. As its reserves dwindle and new sources are sought in treacherous lands, the question will arise: How far are the people of Boreas willing to go to control this precious resource?

Olav J. Insight:
"Every great civilization is built on a foundation of finite resources. Thediscovery of Froststone was both a blessing and a curse—fueling growth butsowing the seeds of future conflict. In Boreas, as with all things, the balancebetween need and greed is fragile."
