Part 9.3 – The Flight from Frosthold

The realization that more Ancient Ones are stirring beneath the ice sends a shockwave of panic through the team. You all turn toward the distant city of Frosthold, its towers barely visible against the swirling storm clouds that gather on the horizon. The ground trembles beneath your feet, and the wind picks up once again, this time more frantic, as though the planet itself is trying to warn you of the impending disaster.

Kael, still reeling from the awakening of the Ancient One, stumbles forward. "We have to warn them," he says, his voice shaky and desperate. "Frosthold... they don't know what's coming."

The trek back to Frosthold is fraught with danger. The once-familiar landscape of the Glacial Expanse is now treacherous, with deep cracks forming in the ice and massive chunks of glacier breaking off and tumbling into the frozen abyss. The wind howls with a new intensity, its voice filled with urgency as it pushes you forward, urging you to move faster.

As you and the team race toward the city, the sky above begins to darken. The storm clouds that have gathered on the horizon swirl ominously, and flashes of lightning illuminate the towering Glacial Sentinels behind you. The glyphs on their surface glow brighter and brighter, as though feeding off the energy of the storm. The air is thick with tension, and every step feels heavier than the last, as if the planet itself is trying to hold you back.

"We're not going to make it," one of the engineers mutters, his voice barely audible over the wind. "The city... it's too far."

But Kael pushes forward, his eyes fixed on the distant towers of Frosthold. "We have to try," he says, his voice filled with determination. "We have to warn them."

The closer you get to the city, the more unstable the ground becomes. Tremors ripple through the ice, and massive cracks begin to form beneath your feet, forcing you to jump from one frozen platform to the next. The wind howls in your ears, its voice almost screaming now, as though trying to drown out the sounds of the approaching storm.

When you finally reach the outskirts of Frosthold, the city is in chaos. The Whispering Winds have brought the warning to the people, and they are scrambling to take shelter from the approaching storm. The streets are filled with frightened citizens, their faces pale with fear as they hurry to secure their homes and gather their families.

Kael runs ahead, shouting for the city's leaders, his voice barely audible over the roar of the wind. "The Ancient Ones are coming!" he cries. "We have to prepare! We have to—"

But before he can finish, the ground beneath the city shakes violently, and a deafening crack echoes through the air. The storm clouds above swirl faster, and a blinding flash of lightning illuminates the sky.

And in that moment, you realize the truth: it's already too late.

The Ancient Ones have awoken, and Boreas will never be the same again.

Future Glimpse!
As Boreas' magnetic fields destabilize, the sky will fracture, creating violent auroras and electrical storms. The people of Frosthold will struggle to adapt to the changing atmosphere, and a race to find a solution will lead to the discovery of an ancient artifact that may hold the key to stabilizing the planet—or destroying it.

Olav J. Insight:
"The sky, once a source of wonder, becomes a harbinger of chaos. In Boreas, even the heavens reflect the planet's internal struggle. But as with all things, beauty and danger often walk hand in hand. The question is not whether we can control the skies, but whether we should even try."
