Lainee had finally settled into her life at Gryffindor, spending more time with Hermione and Ron. It started one evening in the library when Hermione noticed Lainee struggling with a Transfiguration assignment and offered to help.

"Try this," Hermione said, pointing out a passage in Intermediate Transfiguration. "Professor McGonagall expects us to master the theory first."

Lainee smiled gratefully. "Thanks, Hermione."

Ron, sitting nearby, grinned. "Join the club. Hermione's the only reason I'm not failing everything."

Over the next few weeks, the three of them began spending more time together. Hermione helped Lainee catch up on Potions, while Ron taught her the rules of wizard chess, a game he played with unexpected intensity.

One rainy afternoon, they gathered around a chessboard in the common room. Lainee watched Ron with wide eyes as he moved his pieces with a confidence that bordered on cocky.

"Don't be too impressed," Hermione whispered with a smile. "He's only this good because he refuses to do anything else with his free time."

Ron shot Hermione a mock glare, and Lainee laughed, feeling a warm sense of belonging. She was finding her place at Hogwarts, one friendship at a time.

Their easy banter and shared moments solidified Lainee's place within the group.
