For those of you wondering what my inspiration was for some of these stories, well here you go:

1. do you believe in ghosts ; after seeing a particularly unsettling report on the news I felt inspired to write a vague short story about society and how people are attempting to upend it.

2. six-hundred nautical leagues of jazz ; my father is a big fan of smooth jazz. honestly sometimes I feel like I'm drowning in it. (plain and simple // sorry dad)

3. yellow fences & wicked flowers ; I had just finished watching a French film which was really colourful and about a woman doing good deeds for people. so I thought, hmm, why not write the opposite of that, but still French.

4. pale costa, the bird of paradise ; this was inspired by a trip to the zoo, where I see enchanting birds with clipped wings. as for why it's titled pale costa, the bird I saw at the zoo had recently injured it's ribs and 'costa' is another name for rib.

5. greetings from mars ; this story was mostly written out of anger, I recently just had a falling out with a friend of mine, and now it feels like we're from completely different worlds. long story short, she was a very superficial person who I used to think was 'out of this world'.

6. experiment c-649 [last record] ; there was a really bad thunderstorm outside. that's pretty much all that inspired this story haha.

7. little jimmy ; this sad little poem about a boy being abused was inspired by a song called '42' by Bad Books. moral of the poem, don't abuse your kids, hate only begets more hate. (also, bonus points to those who see the hidden message in my poem)

8. i can feel your pain ; I saw this super cute little couple on a date earlier this year. what was striking about their date was you could clearly tell it was their first, they were so so nervous, but watching them gave me this airy, warm feeling.

9. the boy who likes boys ; in honour of pride month, that I guiltily missed on here because I hadn't discovered Wattpad yet, I thought it was only appropriate to add a smidgen of homosexuality to my book. (why not?)

10. two eyes on ten fingers ; this is a super short, bizarre, confusing story I wrote down in my literature journal in high school, followed up with Morse code. the inspiration behind this was that I wanted to write something were the fourth wall was broken, and made the audience feel like they were directly interacting with the stories I wrote. (I thought and still think it's one of the coolest ideas I've ever had; only wish I could elaborate a little more than a couple sentences; the thief is a greedy hoe.)

So there you go! Feel free to comment below about what you think; some inspirations were more meaningful than others, and some were just random thoughts that became stories. Stay tuned for another bonus chapter where I reveal the French translations to the quotes above each story.
