(Picture is not mine)

I parked my motorcycle in one of the employee parking spaces at the back of the restaurant, and headed inside to clock in for my shift. One of my co-workers were sick, so now I was stuck with the afternoon shift.

I was about to head inside when I heard one of my co-workers Tory talking to a guy.

Now I only know Tory because I usually see her clocking out from her shift when mine starts, or sometimes when our shifts overlap. We've talked a few times, mostly out of boredom when the restaurant is slow. She told me how she's working this job because her mom is sick and has to provide for her younger brother, Brandon. And I told her how I work to provide for my brothers. So we mostly bonded over that.

But overall, she's a pretty cool girl even though most people think of her as crazy or aggressive. And I also get where she comes from.

"Miguel?" Tory asked.

"Tory." Miguel, the guy that Pansy was telling me about who got kicked over the railing at the school fight.

"How'd you know I worked here?"

"I didn't. I thought you worked at the roller rink."

"No, that's at night. I gotta work two jobs now. Mom's not doing well."

"I'm sorry."

"No, I'm sorry. I know that I should've come to see you. I just didn't know how to help."

"So you did nothing."

"I felt guilty about everything. But we're doing everything we can to get back at Miyagi-Do for what they did. It's like Sensei Kreese says, "If one of us gets hurt, we all get hurt."."

"Nobody else got hurt, Tory. I'm the one in a wheelchair."

"Yeah, I just meant-"

"No, I know what you meant. I never cared about Miyagi-Do or Kreese, I cared about us."

"Did you? Or were you just going out with me to get Sam's attention?"

"Is that really what you think?"

"I saw you with her. I didn't have a choice."

"Yes, you did, Tory! I know you're helping your mom, but... you need help."

Tory scoffed. "You think I'm crazy?"

"No, I didn't say that."

"No, that's OK. Everyone does. I don't give a shit. 'Cause all that matters is who wins in the end. Nice seeing you." She opened and closed the door shut.

Damn, talk about toxic relationships.

I looked at Miguel and headed inside to clock in for work.
