The morning after the gathering, I awoke to the sound of birds chirping outside my window, a gentle reminder of the life bustling around me. I stretched, feeling the pleasant ache in my muscles from the previous night's festivities.

The cozy atmosphere of my home was filled with the scent of lingering cookies and fresh flowers, and I couldn't help but smile at the memories of laughter.

As I made my way to the kitchen, my phone buzzed with a text. It was from Jenna.

"Hey! Last night was amazing! You're such a great host. Let's do it again soon!"

I quickly replied, my heart still fluttering from the evening's joy. "Thank you! I had a blast. Let's definitely plan another gathering soon."

As I poured myself a cup of coffee, I noticed another text pop up. This one was from a number I didn't recognize.

"Hey, Faye! It's Nic, Jenna gave me your number I hope you dont mind, I was wondering if you'd like to grab coffee today?"

My heart skipped a beat. Nic had stood out to me during the gathering—his warm smile, easygoing nature, and the way he engaged everyone in conversation. I felt a thrill at the thought of spending time with him one-on-one again.

"Hi Nic! I'd love to. What time were you thinking?"  I replied, my fingers trembling slightly as I typed.

"How about 2 PM? There's a great café just down the road."

I quickly agreed, feeling both excited and nervous. As the day unfolded, I found myself preoccupied with thoughts of the impending coffee date. What would they talk about? Would she be able to hold his attention? We have already talked about a lot, what if I run out of things to say?

By the time 2 PM rolled around, I had changed outfits three times, finally settling on a comfortable yet stylish sundress that highlighted my newfound confidence. I added a light cardigan, grabbed my bag, and headed out, my heart racing with anticipation.

The café was a charming little place, nestled among the trees. The scent of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air as I entered, the warm atmosphere inviting and cozy. I spotted Nic seated at a small table in the corner, a slight smile on his face as he waved me over.

"Hey, City. You look great!" he said, standing up to greet me.

"Thanks, You too" I replied, taking a seat across from him. As we settled in, I couldn't help but notice how relaxed he seemed, his blonde hair slightly tousled and his blue eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.

We ordered our drinks, and I opted for a chai latte, feeling comfortable. As we chatted, I found it easy to talk to Nic. We exchanged stories about our lives, our dreams, and what brought them to the countryside.

"I grew up in this small town and I dont see myself leaving" Nic shared, leaning forward. "It just feels like home, you know?"

I nodded, feeling a connection. "Absolutely, I needed a change from the city. It was overwhelming, and I wanted something quieter, more connected to nature."

"I get that," Nic said, his gaze focused and sincere. "It's refreshing to meet someone who feels the same way."

As our conversation flowed, I learned that Nic was an artist too. He painted landscapes and portraits, finding inspiration in the beauty of the countryside. I found myself fascinated by his passion, asking questions about his work and his creative process.

"What about you?" he asked, taking a sip of his coffee. "What do you love to do?"

"I've always enjoyed reading and painting also, but I've never had the time to pursue it seriously, the painting I mean, reading I will always have time for" I admitted, a hint of vulnerability creeping into my voice. "I've been trying to get back into it since moving here. It's been a challenge, but I'm finding inspiration in the new environment."

"Painting? That's awesome, maybe ill have to show you a few places" Nic said, his eyes lighting up. "I'd love to read something you've read, id like to see what shapes you into you."

I felt a rush of warmth at his encouragement. "Thanks! I'm still figuring things out, but I hope to share more of my work soon."

As the afternoon unfolded, we exchanged ideas about art and creativity,  he discussed favorite local spots. Nic mentioned a hidden hiking trail that offered stunning views, and I eagerly took note, intrigued by the prospect of exploring it together. I think he may have mentioned it last time.

Our coffee date stretched on, time slipping away as we lost ourselves in conversation. Laughter filled the space between us, a connection blossoming that felt both exhilarating and comfortable.

Eventually, as the sun began to dip lower in the sky, we realized we had been talking for nearly two hours. I felt a mix of contentment and reluctance at the thought of parting ways.

"Can I walk you back?" Nic offered, standing up as I gathered my things.

"That would be great" I replied, my heart fluttering at the thought of spending just a little more time together.

As we strolled down the road, the conversation flowed easily, punctuated by comfortable silences that felt filled with possibility. I glanced at Nic, noticing how the light played in his hair and the genuine smile that seemed to light up his entire face.

"I had a really great time today," he said, looking over at me with an earnest expression. "I'm glad we could connect."

"Me too, I didn't expect it to be so easy," I admitted, a shy smile creeping onto her lips.

We arrived back at my cottage, and I hesitated at the front steps, reluctant to say goodbye. "Would you want to hang out again sometime? Maybe go hiking or something?" I suggested, my heart racing.

"Definitely. I'd love that" Nic replied, his smile broadening. "I'll text you, and we can set something up."

As we exchanged goodbyes, I felt a flutter of excitement in my chest. Nic had a way of making her feel seen and appreciated, and the thought of spending more time with him sent my thoughts racing.

Once inside, I leaned against the door, a grin plastered on my face. My heart felt lighter, filled with the possibilities of new friendships and potential romance. The world outside my cottage was starting to come alive in ways I had only dreamed of, and I couldn't wait to see see him again.
