The Tension Beneath the Surface

The night air was heavy with unspoken tension, yet the room remained quiet. Bani sat by the window, flipping through the pages of a book she wasn’t really reading. Her eyes occasionally flicked to the side, sensing Veer’s gaze on her, but she refused to acknowledge him.

Veer, sprawled across the bed with his signature smirk, finally broke the silence.
“Seriously, Bani? Tumhe lagta hai yeh book tumhe distract kar paayegi?”

Bani didn’t look up, keeping her face composed.
“Tumse distract hone ki zarurat nahi, Veer. Tum utne interesting nahi ho jitna tum samajhte ho.”

Veer chuckled, sliding to the edge of the bed, making his presence impossible to ignore.
“Interesting ya nahi, but tumhari attention toh main le lunga, chahe tumhe pasand aaye ya nahi.”

Bani closed her book with a snap, clearly irritated, but still calm.
“Main tumhari baate seriously nahi leti, Veer. Tum kuch bhi kar lo, it’s not going to work.”

Veer raised an eyebrow, leaning closer, his voice dropping a notch.
“Oh, but it’s already working. Tum itni effort laga rahi ho to avoid me... that’s my first win.” His tone was teasing, but there was an undeniable intensity in his eyes.

Bani stood up from her seat, giving him a hard look.
“Tumhe lagta hai tumhare har tareeke se main impressed ho jaungi?”

Veer didn’t flinch. He took a step forward, closing the distance between them, his smirk softening into something deeper.
“Impress karne ka plan nahi hai. Mujhe sirf tumhare saath rehna hai... kyunki tumhari company is enough reward for me and my love.”

Her breath caught for a second, but she quickly masked it, turning her back to him.
“Veer, tumhara yeh overconfidence tumhe ek din bohot regret dilayega.”

Veer’s smile didn’t fade, instead, it deepened. He came towards her, coming face to face once again.
“Agar main risk nahi lunga, toh main tum tak kabhi nahi pahuchunga.” He held her gaze, his eyes flickering with something more than just playfulness.

Bani crossed her arms defensively.
“Tumhe nahi lagta ke tum kabhi haar bhi sakte ho?”

He leaned in just enough to make her heartbeat quicken, his voice a low whisper.
“Jab tak tum saamne ho, haarna bhi ek tarah ki jeet lagega.”

Bani’s eyes widened slightly, but she quickly turned away, hiding the momentary slip in her composure. Before she could think of a retort, a knock on the door interrupted them.

“Veer baba, baahar aaiye zara,” Shukla’s voice called out urgently.

Veer shot Bani a glance.
“Lagta hai baaki duniya tumhe bachaane aa gayi hai, Mrs. Singhania,” he teased.

She rolled her eyes, pretending his words didn’t affect her, but as he moved towards the door, his presence lingered.

“Ek din tumhe jawab dungi, Veer,” she muttered under her breath.

He turned around just before stepping out.
“Main us din ka intezaar karunga... aur tab tak main tumhara sabar test karta rahunga. .”

She pretended to be unaffected as usual. As the door shut, She knew something was off about Shukla being urgent.Quietly, she moved closer to the door and pressed her ear against it.After all keeping information about your enemies is always useful.

In the hallway, Shukla’s face was etched with worry.

"Baba, humare jo cheel gaayab hue the... ab tak unka koi pata nahi chala," Shukla began, his voice hushed. "Kuch log keh rahe hain yeh kaam shayad Aadinaagin ka ho sakta hai."

Veer’s eyes narrowed. He knew Bani was Aadinaagin, but he had to maintain his pretense.

"Aadinaagin?" Veer scoffed, keeping his tone casual. "Hum sirf shak ke basis  par kuch nahi keh sakte, Shukla. Humein ab tak koi proof nahi mila hai ki Aadinaagin sach mein hai ya nahi."

Shukla nodded but remained tense. "Lekin baba, itne saare cheels ka ek saath gaayab ho jana... humne har jagah dhoondha, kuch bhi nahi mila. Lagta hai koi bahut bada dushman hai jo humare khilaaf kaam kar raha hai."

Veer crossed his arms, pretending to consider it. "Haan, par jab tak humare paas koi saboot nahi hai. Aur haan, search teams ko aur active karo. Har jagah talashi honi chahiye."

Inside the room, Bani’s eyes widened as she listened. So, more cheels had gone missing. Could this be connected to Shreya's kidnapping? She thought back to the incident when Shreya had been rescued. Shreya had mentioned seeing strange creatures, ones that looked like cheels... and possibly naags. Was it all tied together?

Bani knew she couldn’t ignore this anymore. If the missing cheels were somehow linked to what was happening with the supernatural world, this was far more dangerous than she had realized. She had to dig deeper and figure out how it all connected.

Veer, still unaware of Bani’s eavesdropping, turned to Shukla again. "Aage ki talashi mein koi bhi naya clue mile, mujhe inform karna. Aur kisi ko is baare mein pata nahi chalna chahiye," Veer ordered.

Shukla bowed slightly, his expression relieved. "Ji baba."

As Shukla walked away, Veer rubbed his temples, trying to hide his frustration. He needed to protect Bani and his clan from whatever was coming after them.

***********************************

Bani quietly moved away from the door, her mind racing with thoughts. The pieces were falling into place, but she needed more information. One thing was certain though: if the cheels were in danger, and if there was a connection between their disappearance and Shreya's kidnapping.

Her next step would be to investigate on her own. But for now, she had to stay calm, act like she hadn’t heard anything. Veeranshu couldn’t know what she was doing.
