"You..."

The word barely left my lips, a fragile breath wrapped in disbelief.

I stood up slowly, even though every
bone in my body begged me to collapse. My legs trembled, the weight of the past anchoring them to the ground. Tears burned at the corners of my eyes, threatening to spill as old, buried memories surged to the surface like a flood I had no strength  to fight.

"Sana, y-you-" he stuttered.

But I raised my palm sharply, silencing him.

I didn't want him to say that name. Not that name.
It disgusted me now. It belonged to a version of me he and they had destroyed.

"What happened, guys?" Ami asked, her voice curious but innocent, still unaware of the storm that had just broken loose inside me.

I couldn't speak. My throat had closed up. I grabbed my purse and turned away.

But before I could walk out, his hand caught my wrist

And I flinched as if his touch could burn through my skin.

I yanked my arm free, my eyes snapping to his with fire and fury and something far more fragile -hurt. Deep, bone-deep hurt.

"My guards are outside the café," I said coldly, voice trembling with restraint. "Dare to stop me again, and you'll face consequences, very bad consequences"

His eyes welled up.

"Please, San—Shanaya... let me explain. Please."

Even hearing my real name on his lips made me recoil.
How dare he use it now?

"You were someone I trusted the most." My voice cracked.

"Please, no-"

"What's going on, Kabir? Shanaya?" Ami asked again, glancing between us, panic beginning to build in her expression.

"I'm your brother, Shanaya. You can-"

"YOU ARE NOT!" I snapped, voice rising like a whip in the quiet café.

"You're not my fucking brother, for God's sake-"

I caught myself, lowering my voice. The guards might barge in if they sensed trouble.

He looked like he had been slapped, and the words trembled on his lips.

"Please-p...please don't say that-"

"Oh really?" I laughed bitterly, shaking my head as the pain stabbed deeper.

"You know what? Because of you I learned that blood is thicker than water, I treated you like family, Kabir. Like a brother. But you-" I stopped, my throat raw with unsaid truths.

"You know what you did."

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, Shanaya. Please... once. Just one chance to explain."

"It's right, you get betrayed by the person you expect the least betrayal from"

He fell to his knees, sobbing, his tears falling freely. He didn't even try to hide them.
