The paintbrush was tucked behind his ear, while his fingers sharpened the features of a face on the canvas. His eyes were focused, and his messy hair kept falling into them, but his curious gaze was filled with excitement. The painting was complete. Jungkook's smile stretched to his ears, and his once-concentrated eyes now shone with satisfaction.
"Jungkook, come down! I've made your favorite dish!" "Yes, Mom, coming!" he shouted back.
Excited, he rushed out of his room and into the family room downstairs. His dad and elder brother, four years older than him, were already waiting at the dining table. As Jungkook scanned the table, his eyes widened at seeing his favorite dishes: tuna gimbap, spicy shrimp crackers, soy sauce eggs, and japchae. He immediately hugged his mom. "You love me more than Dad, don't you?" he teased.
His dad, frowning, gave his wife puppy eyes. "Is it true?" His mom laughed at the playful banter. "Yes, I love my son more than anything in this world."
Jin, the eldest, smiled at the scene. He was mature and wise, just like their mother. Meanwhile, Jungkook had already begun eating, unable to control his excitement. He devoured the food like a hungry child, a huge grin never leaving his face.
After a hearty family dinner, everyone retreated to their rooms. Jungkook and Jin shared the upstairs room, where their beds were adjacent but separated by a small gap.
Jin turned to Jungkook and said, "You ate a lot today. Come on, let's go for a walk." Jungkook shook his head, "No, I have school tomorrow. If I go now, I'll be late."
Jin laughed and left him alone. The night was serene, with a full moon shining through the window. Jungkook fell asleep while staring at it. But soon, his peaceful expression faded. Sweat appeared on his forehead, his hands clutched his chest, and his face twisted as if he were in the middle of a nightmare. Within minutes, he jolted awake, gasping for breath like he'd been suffocating in his sleep. He reached for the water bottle on the bedside table, took a sip, and muttered to himself, "Why does this dream keep haunting me? I'll ask Mom in the morning." With that thought, he drifted back to sleep.
