Natasha sat curled up in the corner of her room, a heavy book resting on her knees. The rain outside her window drummed a gentle melody, casting a dim, moody light on the pages of the novel she was engrossed in. It was the final book of the "Dark Empire" series, a fantasy world that had consumed her for months now. At the center of it all was the character she found herself fascinated by: Rajvir Singhania—the ruthless, enigmatic ruler of a world steeped in danger and power.
Unlike the usual heroes of other books, Rajvir wasn't the type to save the day. He conquered, destroyed, and ruled with an iron fist. Yet, Natasha felt something more beneath his cold exterior. There was pain in his actions, a hidden story she longed to uncover. His dark allure had captivated her in ways she couldn’t explain, making it hard to separate the fiction from reality.
"Natasha, you're lost in that book again!" her best friend, Aisha, exclaimed, walking into her room uninvited. Aisha had been Natasha's closest friend for years. With her bright personality and always-cheerful attitude, she was the complete opposite of Natasha, but their bond had only grown stronger with time.
"Just one more chapter," Natasha replied, her eyes never leaving the page.
Aisha groaned, flopping down on Natasha’s bed. "You know, one day you're going to fall so deep into these books that you'll never come back to the real world. Honestly, why are you so obsessed with this Rajvir guy? He's literally the villain."
Natasha finally looked up, her expression thoughtful. "He's not just a villain. There's more to him... he’s misunderstood. I can feel it. I don’t know, it’s like he’s real."
Aisha raised an eyebrow. "You’re too much of a romantic, Nat. You always look for the good in people, even when they’re beyond saving."
Natasha smiled wistfully. "Maybe. But there's something about Rajvir. It’s like he’s watching me sometimes, like I’m not just reading his story, but I’m part of it."
Aisha laughed, tossing a pillow at her. "You need to get out more. This book stuff is getting to your head!"
Shaking her head, Natasha turned her attention back to the story. But as she did, something odd happened. The words on the page blurred for a moment, as if the ink was shifting, and then the name Rajvir seemed to glow faintly. Natasha blinked, her heart racing. She reached out to touch the page, and the moment her fingers brushed the letters, a cold shiver ran down her spine.
Suddenly, her room felt different, darker. The sound of the rain outside became distant, muffled, as if she were no longer in her world. Natasha’s breath quickened, and she looked around, but everything appeared normal—except for the growing sensation that she wasn’t alone.
"Natasha..."
The voice was deep, commanding, and far too real to be coming from her imagination. She whipped around, heart pounding in her chest, but the room was empty. Her eyes darted back to the book, and for a split second, she could have sworn she saw a shadow moving in the background of one of the illustrations of Rajvir’s dark palace.
Her hands trembled as she closed the book. She shook her head, trying to brush off the feeling, but deep down, she knew something was wrong. Someone—or something—was watching her.
"Okay, maybe you're right," Natasha said, her voice shaky as she turned to Aisha. "Maybe I do need a break."
Aisha didn’t seem to notice her friend's sudden unease. "Finally! How about we head out for some coffee or something? It's pouring outside, but nothing a good cup of hot chocolate can't fix!"
Natasha agreed, slipping the book back onto her shelf. But even as she left the room, the strange sense of being observed lingered, like invisible eyes following her every move.
As the two girls stepped out into the rain-soaked streets, Natasha couldn’t shake the feeling that her world had shifted somehow. That night, when she lay in bed, the same voice echoed in her dreams, calling her name—darker and more intimate than before.
"Natasha... you're mine."
