Carine spent most of her time with her new friend Mae and hung out with her almost every day. Leo spends his days at home, recovering from his coma, letting his parents take care of him.
Leo heard a knock on his door, it was his mother with a plate of food. "The doctor said eating leads to a stronger recovery!" She smiled, trying to lighten the mood. Leo glanced at the plate in her hand then at the other full plates on his stand table "I'm brain dead I don't think eating will help" he sighed. His mother didn't say anything and sat next to him on the bed.
She reached out her head to caress his cheek "I know this is hard but it'll work out you will get better and everything will be fine and with this lawsuit coming in you'll never have to worry" she spoke with a low, soft voice. Leo finally looked up at her, moving away her hand from his face and sitting up "It's not about the lawsuit he ruined everything, now everything is weird and everyone is constantly checking on me!" Leo's voice raised slightly as he stood up.
"I can barely remember anything! I can't walk too far without getting dizzy I take medication for my headaches! I had a life, Mom! Y'know I had friends, family, and a girlfriend, and now I barely see them! I almost dead...now I'm stuck in this house with a useless fucking brain!" Leo paced around his room and spat out any words that came to mind. His mom teared up and stood up, walking toward him slowly. She hugged him "Leo, it's ok" she squeezed him tighter she wanted to do anything in her power to take his pain away, but she couldn't.
Leo hugged her back "It's not, it's not ok" sobbing as his words were muffled they didn't move, standing there hugging, comforting each other. Meanwhile, the crew was still on the road "How much longer" Emily whined "Yeah, can we stop for a second" Luna sighed, grabbing her mini fan out of her bag, and letting the cool air hit her face. "Guys! Adventure doesn't stop and besides, we aren't there yet" Dave trying to lighten the mood once again. "What does even mean?" Eli asked confused. "Just stop the fucking car" Hardin shouted
Dave flinched slightly "ok, ok, fine" he mumbled after his breath as he stepped the car.Everyone got out of the car, everyone except Luna. She was looking around in the car as if she lost something. "Where is it" she mumbled, looking in between the cushion of the seat. Hardin noticed the bracelet on the floor, almost under the seat of the passenger seat in front of her. Luna noticed from the corner of her eye Hardin was reaching for something on the side of the car. "Bracelets tend to snap off," Hardin said giving her bracelet back "Thanks" she quickly said, snatching it out of his hands.
Everyone was out of the car, taking in the views of Mother Nature or stretching their legs. After a few minutes Dave went back to get the car started the engine sputtered, then let out a harsh cough before going silent Dave ignored the noise and turned the key again this time, a plume of steam hissed from under the hood of the car. Dave rested his hands on the steering wheel, letting out a frustrated sigh "The van won't start" he whispered loud enough for everyone to hear him.
Dave got out of the van "It won't start" he repeated everyone instantly groaned and complained once again. "On the bright side we are all here together" Dave smiled awkwardly laughing "Since everyone is clearly frustrated how about a joke" Finn pulled out his puns and jokes book from his book bag. "What do you call a very sad cup of coffee" Finn smiled as he looked at everyone, "a despresso!" He snorted. Everyone had blank faces, just staring at him "Oh cmon! That was funny" Finn cracked up.
Josie looked up at the sky and noticed it was getting dark. "Well I guess we are camping out here" She shrugged her shoulders. Everyone groaned one last time before accepting the fact that they had to sleep in the middle of the forest. Once they found a good area they started to set up.
Back at home, Carine and Mae were talking, standing in line at Rosie's when Conrad stood in line only a few people apart from each other. Carine let Mae order for both of them and Carine stood out of line, waiting for Conrad "Conrad?" Carine called out, putting a hand over her forehead to block the sun from her eyes. Conrad looked back with a confused look on his face.
Conrad paid for his food and stepped out of line to see who was calling him. "What are you doing here, Carine?" Conrad walked closer, clearly his throat. "I go here" Carine scoffed "Well, it was good seeing you" Conrad slightly smiling walking away from the conversation. Before Conrad could get far Mae walked up handing Carine her blueberry pie "Conrad!" Mae called out. Carine was surprised at how she knew exactly who he was without having to tell her anything.
Conrad turned around his face was frozen like he had seen a ghost. Mae and Conrad didn't say anything for about a minute "What is she doing here?" Conrad finally broke the awkward silence "Please don't talk to me like I'm not here" Mae fussed. "She helping get over my break up" Carine replied, "speaking of break ups, how's belly?" Mae said lightly chuckling giving him a mischievous smirk. "Ignore her, anyways why are you here?" Carine said trying to not laugh at her comment.
Conrad glanced down at the ground, taking a few seconds to respond. "the house is being sold, I came down here to try to fix it so don't worry" Conrad said walking to his car. "Wait what?!" Carine yelled out following him as she pulled out her phone "I'm calling Jere" Carine suggested "No! Don't call him" Conrad raised his voice as he opened his car "If you call him then he'll bring belly and that makes things difficult, so please don't call them" Conrad explained as his voice to back to his normal tone.
Carine sighed "Fine! But I'm coming and so is Mae and we gotta tell the others when they get back" Carine negotiated. Conrad scoffed at her request "Alright cmon" he agreed. Conrad, Carine, and Mae got in the car to drive to the beach house.
They parked in the driveway and got out of the car. The girls instantly noticed the "for sale" sign "Wow, you weren't kidding" Mae commented. They walked inside instantly the emptiness of the house, how soulless it felt when it was not decorated. They all went their separate ways to explore the house for what might have been the last time.
Outside, Mae was by the pool with her toes in the water, enjoying the view. It wasn't long before Conrad walked outside too, and he sat next to her "Even though I didn't know this place that well I'm gonna miss it" Mae said quietly Conrad glanced at her "Yeah, me too" Conrad whispered. A few seconds of silence came between once again. "Well if this is really our time last time at this house we gotta make the most of it" Mae splashing him with her feet.
Conrad looked down and smiled, shaking his head "You were always so optimistic, even in the worst of moments you always found a way to see the good in things" Conrad praised "there is always a good things in bad moments you just have believe enough to see it" mae encouraged. Conrad smiled at her, his smile so beautiful yet so rare Mae was so happy to know that she always found a way to make him smile.
Mae and Conrad begin to splash each other with their feet eventually they started splashing each other in the pool. In the backgrounds of their fun in pool a familiar voice called out to them "Conrad? Why didn't you tell me" both Mae and Conrad's attention was now on the voice, startled by them. Both of them quickly got out of the pool as they realized who it was, it was Jeremiah looking furious even ever.
