CHAPTER FIFTEEN: THE GREAT HEESEUNG AVOIDANCE MISSION (GONE WRONG)

Sunghoon’s morning started with a simple plan: avoid Lee Heeseung at all costs. As long as he could keep his distance, he wouldn’t have to deal with the growing feelings that had been creeping up on him. Simple enough, right? Wrong.

The office buzzed with its usual morning chaos, but Sunghoon’s focus was singular: dodge, duck, and divert from Heeseung. He had even mapped out a strategy in his mind—he’d take the long way around to the copy room, avoid the coffee machine during Heeseung’s break time, and if all else failed, hide in the bathroom stalls. Professional, it was not, but desperate times called for desperate measures.

Sunghoon peeked out from his cubicle, scanning the floor like a spy on a top-secret mission. No sign of Heeseung. Good. With a quick, stealthy maneuver, Sunghoon darted towards the break room. He needed his coffee to survive the day, but he wasn’t about to risk a run-in with Heeseung over it.

As he reached the break room, he sighed in relief, glad he had made it without incident. He poured himself a cup, mentally congratulating himself on his successful evasion tactics. But just as he took a sip, a familiar voice echoed from behind him.

“Hey, Sunghoon.”

Sunghoon nearly choked on his coffee. He turned around slowly, plastering on a forced smile that did nothing to hide his panic. There stood Heeseung, leaning casually against the door frame with that signature smirk that made Sunghoon’s stomach do flips.

“Morning, Heeseung,” Sunghoon greeted, trying to sound casual. Inside, his brain was screaming. How did Heeseung keep finding him like this? It was like the man had a sixth sense for ruining Sunghoon’s avoidance plans.

“You’ve been hard to find today,” Heeseung commented, his eyes narrowing playfully. “I thought you were avoiding me.”

Sunghoon let out a nervous laugh, desperately trying to sound nonchalant. “Avoiding you? Pfft, no way. I’ve just been... busy. Lots of work, you know?”

Heeseung raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced but amused nonetheless. “Busy, huh? Well, as long as you’re not avoiding me, then I guess you wouldn’t mind joining me for a meeting later.”

Sunghoon blinked. A meeting? He needed to think fast. “Uh, I’d love to, but I actually have... uh, another meeting. With... the copier guy. The copier’s been acting up, and you know how these things go, right? Super urgent.”

Heeseung chuckled, folding his arms across his chest. “Really? Because I checked with maintenance earlier, and they said the copier’s fine.”

Sunghoon cursed internally. Damn Heeseung and his thoroughness. “Oh, well, you know, these things can be unpredictable. One minute it’s fine, and the next, it’s a paper jam apocalypse.”

Heeseung’s grin widened, and Sunghoon felt his pulse quicken under the intensity of that gaze. “Okay, Sunghoon. But if you get a break from your... copier crisis, you know where to find me.”

Sunghoon nodded, watching as Heeseung finally left the break room. He exhaled deeply, clutching his coffee cup like it was a lifeline. The man was impossible to avoid, and Sunghoon couldn’t tell if Heeseung was deliberately trying to catch him or if the universe was just playing a cruel joke.

Heeseung returned to his office, amused but slightly puzzled by Sunghoon’s behavior. It was becoming increasingly obvious that Sunghoon was avoiding him, and while it was kind of funny, it was also frustrating. Heeseung wasn’t sure what he had done to deserve the cold shoulder, but he wasn’t going to let Sunghoon get away with it that easily.
