CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN: OFFICIALLY YOURS
Sunghoon had never imagined he’d be in this position—sitting across from Heeseung in a cozy café on a quiet Saturday morning, his heart racing as if he were on the first date all over again. But this time, there were no weird jokes or awkward silences. Today was different; today felt like the beginning of something real.
Heeseung had been unusually quiet, stirring his coffee absently while sneaking glances at Sunghoon, who was fidgeting with his mug. The tension between them was palpable, not the uncomfortable kind they’d once had, but the nervous anticipation of two people about to take a leap together.
“So, I’ve been thinking…” Heeseung finally said, breaking the silence. Sunghoon looked up, his heart skipping a beat. Heeseung’s gaze was intense, his usual playful demeanor replaced with something more sincere, almost vulnerable.
“About us?” Sunghoon asked, his voice softer than he intended.
Heeseung nodded. “Yeah. I don’t want to dance around it anymore, Sunghoon. I like you—a lot. More than I ever thought I would.”
Sunghoon’s cheeks flushed, the words hitting him squarely in the chest. It was one thing to feel something, but it was another to hear it spoken aloud. Heeseung was always so confident, so sure of himself, and seeing him this earnest made Sunghoon’s heart swell.
“I like you too,” Sunghoon admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. “I think I’ve liked you for a while now, even when you were driving me crazy.”
Heeseung chuckled, the sound warm and light. “I was wondering when you’d finally admit it.”
Sunghoon rolled his eyes, but he couldn’t hide the smile tugging at his lips. “Don’t get too cocky, Lee Heeseung.”
“Can’t help it,” Heeseung teased, leaning back in his chair. “But seriously, I’ve never been this sure about anyone. I don’t want this to be something temporary.”
Sunghoon felt a surge of emotions—joy, fear, excitement—all mingling together. He wanted this too, more than anything, but the idea of being vulnerable, of opening himself up completely, was still terrifying. Yet, with Heeseung, it felt like a risk worth taking.
“I want that too,” Sunghoon said, his voice steady despite the butterflies in his stomach. “I want us to be real.”
Heeseung’s smile was breathtaking, filled with genuine happiness that made Sunghoon’s heart race. “Then let’s make it official. You and me—no more hiding, no more pretending. Just us.”
Sunghoon nodded, his anxiety melting away as he reached across the table to take Heeseung’s hand. It was such a simple gesture, but it felt like sealing a promise, one that they were both eager to keep.

Their relationship quickly became the talk of the office, but for once, Sunghoon didn’t mind the whispers or curious glances. Walking into work with Heeseung, their hands brushing as they exchanged playful banter, felt natural now. Even Heeseung’s father, who had always maintained a professional distance, seemed to soften, giving them knowing smiles whenever he saw them together.
As weeks passed, their relationship blossomed in small, unexpected ways. Heeseung would bring Sunghoon coffee in the morning, just the way he liked it, with extra foam and a dash of caramel. Sunghoon, in turn, would surprise Heeseung with lunch during busy days, sneaking into his office with takeout and a cheeky grin.
One evening, after a particularly grueling day at work, Heeseung invited Sunghoon over to his place. It wasn’t the first time, but there was something about the way Heeseung had asked—his tone hopeful, almost shy—that made Sunghoon’s heart flutter.
Heeseung’s apartment was cozy and modern, a reflection of his personality. They settled on the couch, sharing takeout and watching a movie that neither of them paid much attention to. Instead, they spent the time talking, laughing, and stealing glances at each other that spoke volumes more than words ever could.
As the movie credits rolled, Heeseung turned to Sunghoon, his expression softer than usual. “You know, I could get used to this.”
Sunghoon smiled, leaning into Heeseung’s side. “Me too.”
There was a comfortable silence between them, the kind that only comes when two people are completely at ease with each other. Heeseung’s arm draped around Sunghoon’s shoulders, and Sunghoon snuggled closer, feeling the warmth of Heeseung’s presence seep into him.
“I’m really glad you’re here,” Heeseung whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of Sunghoon’s head.
Sunghoon’s heart swelled. He looked up, meeting Heeseung’s eyes, and in that moment, everything felt right. “Me too, Heeseung.”
Heeseung smiled, his thumb brushing softly against Sunghoon’s cheek. “I love you.”
The words hung in the air, and Sunghoon’s breath hitched. He knew he felt the same, but hearing it aloud made it all the more real. Sunghoon reached up, cupping Heeseung’s face as he leaned in, their foreheads touching.
“I love you too,” Sunghoon whispered back, his voice filled with all the unspoken emotions he’d kept bottled up.
Heeseung closed the distance, capturing Sunghoon’s lips in a tender, lingering kiss that spoke of promises, of a future together that they were both eager to explore. Sunghoon melted into it, feeling a sense of peace he hadn’t known he was missing.
When they finally pulled away, Heeseung grinned, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “So, does this mean you’re my boyfriend now?”
Sunghoon laughed, swatting Heeseung playfully on the arm. “I think we’ve been past that point for a while, don’t you?”
Heeseung shrugged, his smile unabashed. “Just wanted to hear you say it.”
Sunghoon shook his head, unable to suppress his grin. “Yes, Heeseung. I’m your boyfriend.”
Heeseung beamed, pulling Sunghoon into another kiss, this one full of joy and unspoken promises of all the moments they would share. They had started as a mismatched pair, thrown together by chance, but now, they were something real, something worth fighting for.
And as they sat there, wrapped up in each other, Sunghoon knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together. For the first time, Sunghoon felt like he was exactly where he was meant to be—right by Heeseung’s side.
