༉*ೃ༄ ( chapter one, new normal )

Rory got along with almost everyone. It didn't matter if they were a Kook or a Pogue, to her they were all just people.

Her mom had raised her to be that way. She'd taught her to be a kind girl who saw past people's outer shell.

However, even if Rory got along with everyone, it didn't mean she necessarily liked everyone. If she had to choose who she'd rather hangout with, really taking into consideration where she knew she'd have the most fun, she knew it'd always be with the Pogues, no matter what.

Some of her favorite Pogues were the Heywards. Bobby and Cara Heyward were some of the most welcoming people Rory had ever met. When she had come poking around The Cut trying to find something to occupy herself with, the Heywards had swung their door open wide and allowed her to work for them.

Even if Rory refused to let them pay her, Mr. Heyward would always sneak some money into her lunch bag she brought with her. They were like a second family to her, and she only felt even more accepted when she became friends with their son Pope.

Pope was often working at Heyward's when Rory was there and the two had started to become comfortable with one another. Neither had realized just how nerdy the other was and a friendship soon blossomed over cleaning fish and discussing the logistics of Star Wars.

If the Heywards were Rory's second family then Pope was like the older brother she never had. Well, older by a couple months, but still. She could tell him almost anything without fearing judgment.

The two would spend hours making each other laugh while pretending to work. It got to the point where Mr. Heyward had to separate them for a while so they could actually get their jobs done.

It was her go-to place to escape when her thoughts became too much for her to bear. Just like now, as she stood on the deck filling a bucket with water trying desperately to think of anything other than her home life or the hurricane that had just hit the island.

"Hey!" Pope shouted, causing Rory to whip her head in his direction. The sight of him walking onto the dock brought a smile to her face, raising her hand into the air to wave at him. Unintentionally as she turned to him, her hand that was holding the hose turned with her and sprayed water in Pope's direction.

"Oh, shit! I'm so sorry!" The girl said, quickly letting go of the handle on the hose head and dropping it into the bucket before walking over to Pope.

He stood in shock from being sprayed, laughing lightly before shaking off his shirt. "All good, just wasn't expecting that." The boy said with a laugh before walking over to her.

Rory brought her hands up to cover her face, to hide her embarrassment but also the laugh she was trying not to let out. She shook her head side-to-side before looking back up at him. "I swear that was an accident."
