Remember when we had not aged?
Our minds were unscarred
By reality,
We chased the wind to catch it
Grasped and kept it in a bottle
On a shelf as a souvenir,
How we raced against a cheetah
And won,
No one moved faster than our
Fearless heart,
My oh my, we lived a life.
Remember when we knew nothing of life?
We had not learnt lessons that
Refuse to be forgotten,
How we went to the lake full of fish
So we can capture the water
And leave the lake dry,
We competed with the earth to
See who can be muddier,
No competition really
Who can be dirtier than a child?
We sang sweeter than birds
Without carrying a tune
For the word melody was
Unbeknownst to us
But then again we knew nothing
At all
And that never stopped us,
We stood beneath a cascading waterfall to feel it's watery curtain
Not once were we washed away,
A heart more fierce than that
Of a lion.
My oh my, we lived a life.
Now look at us today.
We walk with a back hunched
Prematurely aged
Aching bones that deny us
A leap of faith,
We have tasted failure
And wish to avoid another spoonful,
We overthink before we take
A single step,
Hesitate to build the life
We have long spoken of
To those who listen,
We live our fantasies in our
Heads
For it is safer that way,
That is if we are still capable
Of thinking up a different world,
We are playing it safe,
My oh my, the life we are living,
The brave and the bold
Have become wise and cautious
For adults don't run
They walk
Lest they fall and never rise again.
