The further society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it, refers to deceptive people who lie and hate those that speak the truth to seek justice, as they oppose them. It is to a great extent that Animal Farm by George Orwell conveys this concept, as it is a political allegorical fable. Through the pig's lies and propaganda, and the animals unknowingly starting to dig up truths, Napoleon's cruel and deceptive ways will come to light.

Our world is full of deceptive people who lie to benefit themselves, or others. But when people discover the truth they may decide to expose them. If the deceptive person has power, then no one would believe the truth therefore making them the liar instead. Such as in Animal Farm when Napoleon uses propaganda to manipulate the farm animals into believing and thinking how he wants them to. For example, using the animal's fear to manipulate them into agreeing. "Do you know what would happen if we pigs failed in our duty? Jones would come back! Yes, Jones would come back!". This displays Squealer using propaganda and repetition of Jones coming back to his advantage, highlighting his deceptive ways of manipulation, and portraying how lies, deception and manipulation is used in Animal Farm. Another example is the pigs altering the original seven commandments to benefit themselves. "When they had finished their confession the dogs promptly tore their throats out" This breaches the original commandment six, "No animal shall kill any other animal." displaying how Napoleon cruelly uses his power to mass murder animals that opposed him and use it to change the commandment to "No animal shall kill any other animal without cause.". This highlights another way Napoleon has manipulated the animals into thinking that it was right as the animals forgot the original commandment due to their intellect being less than that of a pig's, which the pigs use to their advantage. Another example of the pigs twisting the animal's memories and lying is when Napoleon convinces the animals that the windmill was his idea and that Snowball had been in league with the humans since the start by providing false evidence, "Snowball was in league with Jones from the very start!.....It has all been proved by documents which he left behind him", and "Snowball suddenly turned and fled, and many animals followed him?.....just at that moment, when panic was spreading". Was Squealer using his words to twist the story to display Snowball in an traitorous, evil light. Using lies to make the animals hate him.

On the other hand truth was demonstrated when many animals confessed to being in league with Snowball and helping him, in which Napoleon ordered the dogs to murder them. One by one they spoke the truth, and because Napoleon had declared Snowball the traitor and using him as a scapegoat, he saw them as the opposition and therefore killed them. The animal's fear is how Napoleon controls them and therefore they will listen and be too afraid to find the truth or use it to expose him. "It says, 'No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets,'.....Curiously enough, Clover had not remembered that the Fourth Commandment mentioned sheets." Though Clover and Muriel noticed the change in the commandment, they did not mention it. Squealer then used his knowledge of words to bend the truth then reassured them about it. This portrays how manipulation and lies are used to convince the animals. Also the quote, "Boxer was still a little uneasy. 'I do not believe that Snowball was a traitor at the beginning.'" Even though loyal Boxer spoke out something small against what Napoleon and Squealer said was right, and then agreed again after Squealer convinced him, "Boxer saw them coming and put out his great hoof, caught a dog in mid-air and pinned him to the ground.". This demonstrates that even the most loyal workers speaking out the tiniest bit will get them in trouble, as the only way the dogs would attack was on Napoleon's command. This indicates that when the truth is revealed, the pigs with higher power will cover it up verbally or physically to maintain their position and so the animals would not rebel against their deceptive lies and manipulation. This highlights that the tiniest hint of opposition will result in hate, and portrays how people will do anything to stop the truth from exposing them. Another example is when Boxer is taken away after working himself too hard and falls sick. "Fools! Do you not see what is written on the side of that van?..... Alfred Simmonds, Horse Slaughter and Glue Boiler, Willingdon. Dealer in Hides and Bone-Meal. Kennels Supplied." Benjamin and Muriel expose the truth about Boxer being taken away to his death, not the vet. But Squealer again uses misleading, deceptive information to convince the animals that he had died a peaceful death, also using it to promote themselves into the innocent light as well as their rising, "In spite of receiving every attention a horse could have......'Forward in the name of the Rebellion. Long live Animal Farm! Long live Comrade Napoleon! Napoleon is always right.' Those were his very last words, comrades." This describes how Squealer uses false information to cover up the fact that Boxer was sent to the 'knackers', illustrating how truths are covered up in Animal Farm and how lies are used to cover them.

In conclusion liars and deceivers will turn people on those who speak the truth to seek justice. They use false evidence to prove the truthful person was the liar the whole time, turning those around them against them, making them hate them. They cover up the truths with lies and do anything to stop it from exposing them, physically or verbally such as silencing them forever or convincing them otherwise. Using fear, manipulation, propaganda and power they control the people's minds into believing what they want them to believe. In Animal Farm the pigs clearly embody this in successfully gaining control over the farm and the animals.
