A few days later, Emma found herself standing in front of a small, charming apartment at the edge of town. It was modest, but the large windows let in plenty of light, and it had a view of the nearby hills. She had decided to stay for a while, at least for a few months. Lukas had helped her find the place, and the thought of building something new—here, with him—filled her with excitement and just a bit of nervousness.
As she unpacked her bags, she glanced at her sketchbook, which had been untouched since her arrival. For the first time in a long while, she felt inspired to create again. The idea of illustrating stories filled with moments like those she'd experienced with Lukas made her heart race. Maybe this was exactly the kind of fresh start she needed, both personally and professionally.
A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. She smiled, knowing exactly who it would be.
Lukas stood there, holding a small bouquet of wildflowers in one hand and a loaf of freshly baked bread in the other.
"Welcome to your new home," he said with a grin, handing her the flowers. "I thought you could use a little housewarming gift."
Emma laughed, taking the flowers and pulling him inside. "You're spoiling me already."
Lukas shrugged, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. "You get used to it when you hang around a baker."
They sat down at the small table by the window, the smell of warm bread filling the room. Lukas tore off a piece and handed it to her. "You settled in alright?"
Emma nodded, taking a bite. "Yeah. It feels strange, but in a good way. Like I'm finally where I'm supposed to be."
Lukas's expression softened. "I'm glad to hear that. I was worried you might regret staying."
Emma looked at him, her heart swelling with emotion. "I don't. Not for a second."
There was a moment of silence between them, but it wasn't awkward. It was comfortable, filled with the weight of unspoken understanding. Emma felt a sense of peace wash over her—a sense of belonging that she hadn't felt in a long time.
