As autumn arrived, the town transformed into a vibrant tapestry of oranges, reds, and yellows. Emma and Lukas spent their days exploring the countryside, walking through the woods hand in hand, and sharing quiet moments beneath the trees. Their connection grew deeper with every passing day, and Emma found herself more and more certain that this was where she belonged.
One evening, as they walked along the river that wound its way through the town, Lukas stopped suddenly and turned to her, his expression serious.
"Emma, there's something I've been meaning to ask you," he said, his voice soft but full of emotion.
Emma's heart raced. "What is it?"
Lukas took her hand, his thumb gently brushing over her knuckles. "I know we've only known each other for a short time, but I've never felt this way about anyone before. I don't want to rush you, but I need to know... do you see a future for us? Because I do."
Emma's breath caught in her throat. She hadn't expected him to ask such a big question so soon, but as she looked into his eyes, she knew her answer.
"I do," she whispered, her voice full of certainty. "I see a future with you, Lukas. I don't want to be anywhere else."
Lukas's face lit up with a mixture of relief and joy. He pulled her into his arms, holding her close as the world seemed to disappear around them.
"I'm so glad you stayed," he murmured into her hair.
Emma smiled against his chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. "Me too."
