I sighed contentedly as I nestled deeper into the familiar comfort of my bed, the soft sheets and plush pillows enveloping me like a warm embrace. I had forgotten just how much I missed this—the delicate scent of lavender mixed with a hint of vanilla lingering in the air, the perfect balance of warmth and cosiness. No other place, no other bed, no other room in the world could ever compare to this one. My room.
The years away hadn’t erased a single memory. Everything was exactly as I had left it—the small photo frames on the dresser, the neatly arranged books on the shelf, and the plush toys scattered across the bed. A wave of nostalgia washed over me, bringing with it an unexpected sense of calm. I rolled over onto my stomach, sinking deeper into the soft mattress, savouring the sensation. This was home.
A small smile tugged at my lips as I closed my eyes, letting the familiar aroma transport me back to simpler days. Days filled with laughter, unspoken love, and warmth. I stretched out my arms, fingers brushing against the cool, smooth surface of the pillow beside me. I hadn’t realised how much I craved this—this feeling of absolute belonging.
But just as I was drifting into a serene state, a sudden, sharp knock shattered the quiet tranquillity of my room.
Thud!
I slipped off the bed, landing on the floor with a graceless crash.
“Ouch—”
I groaned, wincing as I rubbed my back, the dull pain making me wince. Of course, it was only my first day back, and I was already making a fool of myself. Typical.
I scrambled to my feet, quickly smoothing down my slightly tangled hair before padding over to the door. I opened it cautiously, half-expecting some kind of prank or surprise, but instead, I found myself staring at my mother’s smiling face.
“Yes, Mom?”
I asked, raising an eyebrow suspiciously. Her eyes sparkled with a kind of mischief I knew all too well. That smile—that smile. It was the one she wore whenever she was up to something, and I couldn’t help but narrow my eyes.
“Your dad’s calling you downstairs, Y/n”
She said sweetly, her tone casual—too casual.
