“Her laughter echoed in my chest, a cruel melody that reminded me of everything I could never be to him”

I felt my breath hitch in my throat, the air around me growing thick and suffocating as my gaze swept across the room. And then I saw him—Taehyung. He stood a little distance away, his tall, poised figure exuding an aura of quiet confidence and maturity that hadn’t been there before. My heart stuttered painfully at the sight of him—the only man I had ever truly loved, ever since our school days.

My eyes roamed over him slowly, almost hesitantly, taking in every detail, every change. He had grown even more handsome over the years, his features sharper and more refined. The way he stood, with his hands shoved casually into the pockets of his tailored pants, his posture straight and assured, radiated a kind of power and elegance that drew everyone’s attention, but it was his eyes—those deep, dark eyes that once held the world for me—that sent a shiver down my spine. They were focused solely on me, his gaze unwavering and intense, but the emotion behind them… I couldn’t decipher it.

My heart ached, a dull, persistent pain, as I continued to stare at him. And then, as if the universe had conspired to hurt me even more, I saw it—a delicate, manicured hand gripping his arm. My breath caught, and time seemed to slow. I watched, helpless and heartbroken, as she stepped into view.

Kim So-yeon. The woman who, for as long as I could remember, had been there by his side. The woman who had always held the place I yearned for in his heart. So-yeon stood beside Taehyung, her arm linked possessively with his, as if to declare to the world—and to me—that the man I loved belonged to her, had always belonged to her. The realisation pierced through me like a dagger, leaving a hollow emptiness in its wake.

Taehyung was never mine. And he never could be.

The truth of it settled heavily in my chest, making it difficult to breathe. I forced myself to look at her, my vision blurring slightly with the tears I refused to shed. So-yeon’s smile was bright and dazzling, the kind that could light up a room and make everyone else seem insignificant. She loosened her grip on Taehyung’s arm and made her way towards me, her movements graceful and confident.

“Oh, Y/N!”

Her voice was sweet and warm, filled with affection that seemed false to me. Before I could react, she pulled me into a tight embrace. I stood stiffly, my body unresponsive, as she hugged me.
