As he walked forward, the excitement of the townsfolk echoed around him. Endless mutterings and cheers of welcome surrounded him as he moved alongside the flashing guiding lights in the center of the road.
"Look, the gates have been opened again!" a young boy shouted excitedly to his grandmother.
"Last time was a month ago..." muttered a pottery merchant to a customer standing beside his pop-up stall.
"A newcomer to the city?" others whispered. "Who is it this time? Another caravan?" Anxious faces peeked out from the clean windows of the gleaming white apartments above street level.
"No, look! It's just one person!" a young girl exclaimed, pointing.
The bustling crowd murmured again, their excitement slowly fading. Frowns rippled through the throng.
Odin glanced left and right, taking in the various faces of Solara Enclave's residents.
Beneath the sunlight-reflecting domes and the shiny white buildings, many of the merchants and buyers in the commercial zones wore awkward, forced expressions. It was as if everyone was putting on a polite smile, greeting each other in an almost theatrical manner, whether it was merchant to customer or neighbour to neighbour.
Odin continued walking through the bustling streets, a growing sense of unease creeping into his mind. He glanced at the faces around him, trying to engage with the townsfolk, but every time he met a gaze, it quickly turned away. They seemed to exchange wary glances, avoiding conversation with an outsider like him, even one labelled a documented refugee.
"Excuse me," he ventured, approaching a merchant displaying colorful wares. "Can you tell me about the—"
